Hopefully thee's more domains than the 5 listed in the playtest. My brother was making a cleric of Eilistraee last night and asked me what domain would make the most sense to use. My reply was, "Uh...um...huh. Life, I guess?"

With all the respect to the Realms, Greenwood, the fans, etc... please, not another Realms product. It seems that there is nothing except Realms in their mind regarding 5e. I respect Realms but never inspired me and never been the thing that I wanted to play.

You can use it in another campaign if you want though.

I use the Paizo AP's in my Forgotten Realms campaign. It still might be good and worth checking out.

I suppose it was too much to hope for that they'd talk about their plans for third-party products for Fifth Edition.

As far as the cleric domains are concerned... back in early '13 the playtest packets included 8 deities (with the domains that they applied to):

Arcanist (Magic/Knowledge)
Lifegiver (Life/Fertility/Healing)
Lightbringer (Sun/Light)
Protector (Defensive Strength/Community)
Reaper (Death/Undeath)
Stormcaller (Storms/Oceans/Physical Might)
Trickster (Trickery/Thieves/Luck)
Warbringer (Warfare)

Just as an example, the 4E Points of Life setting had 11 non-evil deities and you pretty much could cover most of them all with those 8 playtest selections (with the exception of a civilization & law one):

Avandra - Trickster
Bahamut - Protector
Corellon - Arcanist
Erathis - (civilization)
Ioun - Arcanist
Kord - Warbringer/Stormcaller
Melora - Lifegiver/Stormcaller
Moradin - Protector
Pelor - Lightbringer
Raven Queen - Reaper
Sehanine - Trickster

That to me points out that having 8 domains is about probably the minimum you would want to go with in order to cover most pantheons of Greater Deities. And if the 5E PHB only includes like three (as we saw in the last playtest packet)... you've going to have a lot of disappointed people. Because Life, Light, and War cannot nearly cover it.

Philosophical definitions of what it means to have knowledge aside, I'm completely comfortable in saying that I "know" we won't need the Starter Set. We have never needed such a Set in the history of D&D. There has never been a version of the game that had the 3 core books where they were not sufficient to play it.

Now that we know for certain that there are 3 core books, I agree that is fairly easy assumption.

The latest packet only spells out 3, but it lists 5 (or 6).

I wonder if the 'no pictures' thing was because the covers aren't finalized? Are the covers something that can be changed fairly easily before sending off the manuscript to the publisher? I have to admit the Beholder on the cover of the PHB doesn't really please me - I think I'd rather see an adventuring party there. Of course since it seems that there really aren't any pictures leaked of the covers it could be an adventuring party fighting a Beholder.

Don't get me wrong - Beholders are cool and all but the PHB should be focused on the players and their PCs.
