D&D 5E (2014) GAMA Trade Show and Game Developer Conference start Monday - announcement Tomorrow?

So the starter set composition is still a bit in the air. The DMG looks like it might be a smaller less expensive book, and possibly optional. If the starter set is a full game then I think the $50 PHB may be genious.

Sure. But both feats and magic items are going to be often used modules. Including both in the PHB would cover the needs of a rather wide audience.

I don't mind too much, but I was kind of hoping for more of the game to be in the Player's Handbook.

Not surprised about magic items in DMG. Them being in PH during 4e was a common complaint about 4e.

Nice fe to get some official info. I hope they plan to start the ball rolling on info now.

"What would Dave and Gary do?" is their guiding light? That's the oddest thing I've ever heard...oh wait, PR-speak. Okay. Should have gotten that vibe from the opening "Stories and memories of play will be more important than mechanics." Well, derp, Sherlock. lol
Stories—and I think I'm not stretching it to assume that means "story lines"—are NOT what Dave and Gary did. They have their spot, but not every gamer is going to use them, maybe not even most.

Actually, I think they are referring to the idea of adventures and such as "stories" rather than rules. Its a bit of a PR dialback from the common criticism that 4e "skipped the story" and focused on the mechanics. "Story matters" is a way of saying "we are concerned about more than stat blocks and power cards".

YMMV, of course.

They can focus on story all they want. I never got away from the story, even while playing 4e.

+1.

And a general comment on stuff mentioned by WOTC: I do not need THEIR story. It has been largely a disappointment since 1997. Prescripted save the world adventure paths are lame.

I don't mind them adding their stories to what is already available over the last 40 years (I will use what suits me) but story is not what I am looking forward to in 5e.
