Pathfinder 1E Gama trade show - Pathfinder Basic

Also, I think that many copies of the $35 Basic will be gifts, while most of the $50 Core will be purchased by the end user. :)

So, most folks won't be buying a $35 Basic and then a $50 Core - they will get the Basic as a gift, try it out, then, if they like it, purchase the Core for themselves.

Is it just me or do points #1 and #4 not jibe with each other? If they aren't sure of the final box contents, how can they be sure that $35 is the cheapest they can produce said contents?

"Hmmm.... without dice, we can do this at $35.00 easy. With dice, I dunno yet. Let me check with some suppliers, crunch some numbers, get some pre-order counts, and see what the price of oil is doing in a few weeks, and I can give a firm, final decision about dice then. Either way, we're going with $35.00"

There's plenty of space between Microlite d20 and Pathfinder. I'm sure that you could make a lean, mean d20 fantasy game that plays A LOT like Pathifinder without all of the extra bells and whistles.

The comment in question wasn't about "doing $35 easy". It was about being the cheapest they could make it given the contents. To say what the cheapest is, you'd have already had to crunch the numbers, as you say (and I'm a professional number cruncher, so I know exactly what you mean). So it's either a premature statement, or is simply marketing-speak, or something else. Just pointing out that if you don't know for sure what's in the box, you cannot say what your cheapest price is.
