Game Balance: possible without magic items?

The forsaker only needs to sacrifice stuff to get his DR. All his stat bonuses, extra AC, and fast healing would still work.

The forsaker becomes a fantastically powerful class in a very low magic setting. Fantastically.

The forsaker's power level is so heavily linked to the magic level in the world, that I don't think he's ever a truly useable class I don't think.
