Gameplay Cutscenes -- Yea or Nay?

I have used cutscenes, and so has our group's regular GM, to great effect. However, we don't use them in a traditional sense. They usually come up when it is non-essential information, or after the event that the PC's triggered, since our group tends to often take the road less travelled when it comes to being railroaded :). Sometimes they come later in small written posts to people's email (I think these inspired us to later start story hours) that give you the big picture after you've been through the frying pan and fire. It's often cool to use when you start the cutscene with something that is totally irrelevant and then build it up right to the point of the start of an encounter; it can build dread and tension in the PC's.
