Maldur Writes : Fusangite: this is the second post today were you say gamers hate themselves?

Where does this come from? I know a large amount of the gamers in the netherlands (working at one of the first gamestores in the country does that to you) and I never seen this?

Self critisim : ok, but downright self-hatred? [/QUOTES]

I am proud of who I am and what I do. Call me a geek, a nerd, a dork, whatever...I don't care. I see gamers as smarter, more creative, faster thinkers than people who spend their days watching mindless reality shows and drinking in clubs.

But that's just me. Maybe it's easier for women. I've found that it isn't. But that just my opinion.

In my group, we represent a variety of body shapes, from little and skinny, to short and muscular, to tall and average build, to the typical stereotype. I'd say the majority of the group is overweight, but it is a close margin. I myself am quite out of shape (though not terribly obese, I do have a gut lol). I dunno about the fashion sense, I don't think I'm terribly nerdy in the outfit department (my fiance makes sure of that :p ). I'm not pleased about my physical condition, so I'm trying to do something about it, but I really don't hate myself (I'm just a little dissappointed in my lack of ambition).

But I do think that the hobby itself does nothing to promote a healthy body. My group sits around for 8-12 hours straight every 3 weeks or so, and the whole time we eat junk food and fast food in considerable quantities. Combined with the fact that chuckin dice does little for muscle tone and it's really not the healthiest thing to do. :D

If I suck in my gut, don't wear a nerd shirt, put in my contacts, and act "cool" I look pretty much like a non-gamer. Most of the time I'm myself and wear plenty of nerd shirts.

I'm a little chubby--mainly a gut and some very sexy man-breasts-- :D and kinda weak, but I *look* strong.

The rest of my gaming group is all pretty normal-looking. Skinny japanese kid, three VERY attractive young ladies, skinny white guy, and a short, stocky football player (more nerd than footballer :))

In our group, i think i'm definately the hardest on myself, just because I *am* pretty out of shape--but hopefully this summer with me being fairly active, that might change.

And we HAVE had pictures posted here before... lemme see if can dig up the links...

well..... a lot of the photolinks are rotten there... but it's archived in the Archive forum

There's always this site that someone set up, although it never got quite as many photos up as I'd have liked to see. I think it's kinda interesting to put a face with the anonymous usernames. I'm on there, anyway, on page 2.

Then again, I'm a bit weird about the anonymity of the internet -- I'm kinda a cantakorous, argumentative old bastard in real life and I'm worse online. Using my real name and putting my picture up where folks can see it helps to rein me in somewhat. ;)

oh, its always easy to pick me out at a con. I'm one of the only indian guys there =)

...and, undoubtedly, playing Magi-Nation. Unless you've developed a new obsession I haven't yet heard about. ;)

Thanks for the link Joshua. It certainly looks like a representative sample to me, over-representation and all.

And we open with Charlie Kaufman...

Of the two dozen gamers I know of in Austin, TX, three fit that stereotype. In general, the people I know are reasonably fit, some with perhaps a smidge of pudge, but only three are actually overweight.

I'm nerdish, but socially well adjusted and reasonably attractive. I haven't found much just cause for the stereotypes :).
