Gamer stereotypes

LOL!

I thought this was going to be an attempt at actually classifying the different categories of gamers. I've noticed several broad classifications at GenCon.

Overweight, sweaty guy
Guy with hat
Tall guy with acne
Nerd with white socks
Short guy with big ego
Normal looking guy (I think this is most of us!)
50-yr. old wargamer guy

And girls:
Goth chic
Overweight, sweaty girl
Girl with lazy eye
Gamer girlfriend with "deer in headlights" look

I'd better stop before I make some people mad. :)

How about this one: The male 2 female transgendered goth/metal head non high school grad gamer of all types who enjoys hanging out at video game stores reliving the moment when Sephiroth kills Aeris uber gamer geek!?

Thats me BTW!

I wonder which of these I fit. Lets see, I am socially inept, so I do not talk much. I am overweight, and do wear glasses. Most people in my school are at worst to me indifferent, and at best nice. So, I would say I am not doing too bad. :)

EDIT: I am also a hopeless romantic and like anime, not sure if that changes anything though. :\

Yes, I could be a fat, bald guy in Mexico, (wonders of the Internet :\ ).

Damn, I forgot about the "fat" ;)

And, I think I have inadvertently crossed over to internet stereotypes here. Sorry for getting off-topic.

Don't worry, it's not your fault - I am an expert at thread hi-jacking. I have an AoE now. ;)

*Sephiroth rocks - I have his theme music playing in my car constantly*

There are girl gamers?

Last time I checked, I was a girl...well maybe too old to be considered a girl (late 20's). I'm somewhere in the old member gallery so there's your proof. There's a bunch of other women in there too. We exist. I've been around games a long time. Granted I started realy, REALLY playing because I have a boyfriend who plays, but the only reason I didn't play before was because I had no one to play with...the other groups I knew didn't want me joining them for various reasons.

I'm normal looking...I mean, children don't run screaming in horror from me...

Well...

Unless I want them to... :p

No, really, I think most of the guys I play with in my two groups are all pretty normal looking guys, ages ranging from early 20's to grandparents.

I know some pretty freaky looking people who aren't gamers. Most of the people I game with have other interests and are not anti-social. I'm anti-social in that I don't really going out to crowded events (ie. clubs, big concerts, etc.). But I have non-gamer friends , non of whom fit any stereotype, and I have a ton of other interests (including such as an avid love of all things Disney, theater, ancient history, political debate and animals).

I collect dragons and fairies and other fantasy stuff, but I also collect ancient Egyptian replicas , Disney snowglobes and stuffed animals.

I think most gamers don't really fall into one category. I often hear people say that gamers are the anti-jocks...well one of the guys I game with is a sports writer. I also know a guyw ho isn't into RPGS, but very into comic books and PS2 and he is also a hockey player.

I guess I can't speak for everyone, but I just try to be me, the way I am, and playing D&D is part of what I do.
