Games the fey play

Hi Everyone.

In my campaign, the group of adventurers are traveling in an enchanted forest with grigs, sprites, pixies, etc. What type of unique games/tricks would they be interested in playing on the adventurers? Any ideas or experiences would be most helpful. Thanks.

The fey are notorious for misleading. Cries for help that sound like children or maidens in distress, or the will-o-the-wisp that appears like a torch in the forest are both popular ways to lead the players into danger. Danger, btw, could be bogs, cliffs, deep rivers, thickets, hungry hags, etc, that either hamper or put the characters in danger. Funny stuff to the fey.

A more creepy effect would be going "Blair Witch." Have laughter drift through the forest, or strange unrecognizable animal cries haunt them as they wander. When I used this in my last enchanted forest, none of the players would leave the trail for anything, not even the druid and rangers in the group.

I don't remember exactally what is said but in the Book Of Eldricth Might III there is a chapter on a fey market place it might be useful.

A few fey tricks that either I've thought up or have been sprung on me in the past:
* Mischeivous fey wanting a show; take inventory items & place them on other Pc's (who have just "stolen" them).
* Fun with clothing... a belt cut 9/10's of the way through can break in times of stress...
* Illusions illusions illusions. From party doppelgangers (engaging in activities ranging from ludicrous to smutty...) to illusions of BBEG or quest items (if you have a big enemy or are searching for something specific, than Detect Thoughts would give enough info to make an illusion of it). Not all fey should be maliciously tricky- ie not always traps, monster ambushes.
I.e, did the belt-cutting trick on a half-orc warrior with a fey who was "guiding" them. Rather than flying off the top, the warrior asked what was going on & suggested he play the trick on a different party member...
the fey took an instant like of the warrior & replaced his damaged belt with one of Strength +4.
* Arrows of forgetfulness... a very good use for them (doubly handy if a PC can't play for several sessions). Shoot the PC on watch then lure him away to be the fey's new playmate.

I just try to think of selfish children with magical powers. They don't really want to hurt the party, just to be entertained by them. However if they have an enemy in the forest, then by putting the PC's in the enemy's path...

Hope some of this helps!

There are quite a few "tricky fey" encounters in En Route (Atlas). One of them involves a pixie stealing an item of the PCs, and then leading them on a merry (and pretty funny) wild goose chase... up trees to where there's a big bee's nest, stuff like that. :) She (the pixie) is just having fun and eventually (if chased) gives the item back.

The fey are known to play the following games:

A) Beat the fat kid with a tire iron

B) Secretly replace their regular coffee with delicious Folger's Crystals

C) Nymph Nipple Nurple

D) Satyr's "rod of lordly might" ring toss

E) Pantaloon Raid on the Unseelie court across the lake

F) Ease the lette R fom all the socee's scolls

G) Staple-leaves-to-your-face-and-pretend-you're-a-woodwose

H) Whoops! There goes your face!

I) Leprechauns in lidy didy tighty whities

J) Chamber pot o' gold

and

K) The Maypole key party

I recall one pixie encounter I had was where the PC's were at a campfire and the hidden Pixie animated a little man made of fire. The little fire-man jumped out and began setting all their stuff on fire. It was REALLY quick and had a high AC, but all the pc's had to do was douse it with water. It was fun to watch the PC's scramble around, some putting out fires, others tring to douse the fire-man.

Other incidents:

Transform the warriors armor into a grass skirt

Heat or Chill metal is always good for a knee slapper

Have someones eyebrows grow long and cover their face to the point of blindness

Dehydrate the parties water and rot their food

Switch magical properties of various magical items in the pc's possession (even if they dont make sense. ex: Cloak of Fireballs and a Neclace of Eyes)

Make it so their horses only walk backwards

Curse one of them so they're always clutzy and bumping into things

Magnetize their armor

Unquenchable Thirst / Insatiable Hunger

Just make life difficult for the PC's... Pixies and Sprites always get a chuckle out of that sort of thing.
