First Post
I don't think I've seen a post about this here before, so here we go.

My freinds and I were talk we see post here about people having problems with thier group and how to fix them. These posts and replies to them, make it seem like many of the people who come here often play with groups of almost strangers. People who just get together to game and aren't really good freinds.

So I guess my questions (or poll if i can get the poll to work) is how many people game with a group like our old one or a group like the new one we have gamed with a few times.

Old Group: This was the first group I had ever played DnD with. We all played Magic: The Gathering in highschool some of the other guys had played DnD off and on. Well stoped playing Magic and went to DnD and played 2E for several years stayed together and kept playing and hanging out (like freinds do) after highschool and switched to 3E when it came out.

New Group: That brings us to the new group. A few months ago one freind moved away and anther sorta moved away taking our group of good freinds from five to three. The three of us still hang out and do things but three is to few for DnD or other rpgs really. So we decided find other people or anither group to game with. We did this by posting a flyer on the cork boards at the local community college. There were only two replies to the flyers one didn't pan out and the other did sorta work until we started actualy playing DnD with them (they were a group of people) and now that isn't really working.

Dang, that looks like a long post. So my question is: What is kinda of gaming group to you game with? A group of good freinds, a group of strangers,(i.e. a group that just gets together to game), a mix of the two, or something i may have missed.

G'day

Having moved and changed schools a few times in my 23 yeaers as a gaer, I have several times started with a group of strangers. And a few times I have recruited strangers, sometimes even a whole group of them to get some more grist for the mill.

But they've all turned into groups of good friends. Or left.

Regards,

Agback

Our group consists of myself, my wife, three of my closest friends, my wife's sister, and one semi-random person. My wife, one of the friends, and I have been gaming together for about 10 years (half my gaming life) now.

I pretty much only play with good friends. In fact, I wont usually game with someone until I've been out with them and gotten a feel for them, to see if they are the sort I would get along with. Its kind of an interview process, i like to know that when there are disagreements, and there will be, that they will be resolved.

Pretty much everyone I've ever gamed with has been a friend first, or a friend of someone in the group.

I've had two people join for a short while after meeting them first online (Hi Djoran! :)) ... that didn't work out, mainly I think due to different playing styles and a personality clash with one of my regular players.

My Saturday group are friends I have known for well over a decade. We are involved in eachother's lives and interact away from the gaming table.

My Thursday game was initially composed of strangers, as I was filling an open slot in a campaign that met at the local gaming store. Over the past 18 months they've become less than strangers, but the focus of our interaction is our game, and we don't associate with each other outside of that Thursday night slot.

I've recently moved to a new town in a different state, so I'm going to be looking for a new local gaming group, so I've chosen both a group of good friends (my Saturday group) and a group of strangers(if I can find a local group).
