Gaming/RPG magazines

Hairball

First Post
So what are the various gaming and/or rpg magazines out there?

I mean magazines that focus entirely on tabletop rpg's, with maybe some cards and miniatures gaming. I guess Dragon would be the classic example.

Dragon, Dungeon and Polyhedron are the ones I am familiar with.

Are there others?

Well, Polyhedron appears to be dead...once again...so you may be able to scratch it off the list.

Poly was originally the RPGA's magazine, and a subscription to it was included as part of your RPGA membership dues. Around the time the RPGA went to a free-membership setup (2002), Poly was discontinued.

It reappeared, not too long later, as the "backup feature" in Dungeon. Poly would feature non-D&D d20 content, including "mini-games". Vocal dislike of Poly among a large number of Dungeon readers led to the discontinuation of that experiment.

Poly was resurrected, again, last year, as an e-mail-only magazine sent to RPGA members. I think there were about a half-dozen issues or so before it went away again, very quietly.

Other gaming magazines I can think of off the top of my head:
- Knights of the Dinner Table -- originally just a gaming comic, it now contains quite a lot of RPG content, though it's focused on HackMaster.
- InQuest Gamer -- focuses primarily on collectible games, though they had RPG content for a while (and still might; I haven't picked up a copy in a year or two)
- White Dwarf -- focuses pretty much exclusively (I believe) on Games Workshop games
- Pyramid -- Steve Jackson Games' weekly e-mag, it was once a print magazine.
- Journal of the Traveller's Aid Society -- SJ Games also puts this out, an e-mag specifically supporting Traveller.

If memory serves, Palladium publishes / published one (Rifter?), though I have no idea how often, or if they still do.

I know I'm not remembering several more that are currently in print, too.

And, as long as I'm at it, a few that I, personally, mourn the passing of:
- Star Wars Adventure Journal
- Star Wars Gamer
- Scrollworks

I have the first, and what I suspect may be the only, issue of "Campaign Magazine," which was setting itself up to be an independent "d20/OGL" mag. I never saw another one, and the web page seems to be just a lame portal site now.

Steve Jackson also tried to do an independent d20 e-mag, similar in format to Pyramid. I can't remember the name off the top of my head; I don't think it lasted a year.

Hmmm, Signs & Portents still exists as an e-magazine, downloadable free at the Mongoose Publishing website here.

No Quarter from Privateer Press includes material for the Iron Kingdoms D20 setting as well as the wargames set in the same world.

Warpstone is a magazine dedicated to the Warhammer Fantasy Role Play game.

Others?

Christian, who was behind this magazine has lauched a weekly newsletter/e-mag called Iridia. Check the Publishers forums here and I think he post's the links there pretty regularly.

I stopped following White Dwarf when the focus shifted almost entirely to minis. Is it still like that? I think someone mentioned Warpstone, which I highly recommend for WFRP fans.

I know there was more than one issue. I have an issue with the beginnings of a really cool adventure in it with part 2 supposedly in the next issue. I don't know if that issue ever came out or not. I think that I saw a couple issues on the shelf at the Game Parlor not too long ago but I don't know how old they are.
