Gaming Stores in Montreal & Toronto?

First Post
Hello fellow gamers...

I'm heading up and over the border next month and I was wondering if there were any good gaming stores in Great White North. I've found Le Valet D'Coeur in Montreal, but are there others I'm missing?

I'll be staying at the Wyndham in downtown Montreal (Jeanne-Mance St.) and at the Fairmont Royal York (Front St. West) in Toronto.

Good day and Merci Beaucoup.

I've been in Chicago the past 4 years, but lived in Toronto before that. There are two gaming stores that come to mind for me. The Silver Snail, on Queen Street, is more of a comic store, but most of the second floor is gaming stuff, and they've got a good selection. Since the store is on the bigger side, and has a staff of, I don't know, maybe 6 or so, the guy behind the gaming cash register doesn't always know what's the latest in the gaming world. The Snail has some pretty cool comic-related window displays, though. And Queen Street is worth visiting, so drop by.

The other one I remember is the Hairy Tarantula, on Yonge. I didn't go there as often, since it was farther for me, but it was also a little cheaper on average than the Snail. The Hairy T is split into two stores, about a half a block apart, one for comics and one for gaming, so if you're in the wrong one, ask where all the gaming stuff is.

I think there was another one near U of T campus, but it escapes me at the moment.

I know there are EN Boarders who are currently living in TO, though, so they should be able to give you more updated info.

Geez, so much for my youth.

I thought I could help you out, but the shops I frequented growing up seem to have disappeared in the last couple of years. Both The Worldhouse and Bushman Games have closed. I guess it's true about not being able to go home.

*SIGH*

Glad to see the snail is still around.

Greetings!

If you have access to a vehicle, in Toronto Sci-Fi World on Steeles & Dufferin (north of downtown TO) and Comic Warehouse Steeles & Dixie (in Brampton). They aren't as close to eachother as it sounds. You'll find a greater selection at the Warehouse but the prices are lower at Sci-Fi plus the cafe is cool to visit.

In Montreal although I haven't been to but hear from others Librarie Donjon is pretty big. They have several locations but I know that there is one in Old Montreal.

Have Fun! :)

There's also Grey Region on Yonge just south of wellsley(sp?), but the selection there isn't great. If you're willing to go farther affield you could try Planet-X (can't give you directions but go to eplanetx.com and there are maps). I like the Hairy Turantula personally, even if the place is a little crampt.

If you're looking for WotC stuff, chapters/indigo (bookstores) may have what you're looking for but they can be rather hit and miss.

I have to recomend Cyberdungeon/ Librairie Donjon. I usually order my stuff online from them and I stopped in to the store the last time I was in Montreal. Great place, the staff is friendly and helpful and they had everything I was looking for.

Depending on how long you're in the country, and whether you feel like seeing the National Capital Region (that's Ottawa for the non-Canadians), there are two or three good stores in Ottawa:

1) Fandom II on Laurier avenue
2) The Comic Book Shoppe on Bank street
3) The Wizard's Tower (one on the Ottawa U. campus and one in Kanata)

The Silver Snail in Ottawa is much less about gaming.

This info might be totally useless, but at least if you're stuck in our town somehow you'll know where to go :)

While I will have my car in both cities, but I will be hoofing it/riding public transportation the entire time...something about exorbant parking fees.

The places people have mentioned are all well within a nice walk to and fro, but this leads to my next question....are these places Metro/Subway accessible? If so, which stops would I use for places such as Hairy Tarantula and Donjon librairie inc 1312 deMaisonneuve est? If not, are the walks to and fro not unlike Washington D.C. (one hill after another followed by yet another hill)

Thanks again for all the great info!
