actually the most common cheese for it is "I'm immune to all magic effects, but all of MY buffs and gear still work b/c the field is shaped around me. I walk up to opponent, and now that he is essentially naked due to the field suppressing all of his items/buffs, I shank him to death with a pointy stick."

To be fair, even a shaped antimagic field is a 2 way blade. Simply speaking, if you attack an opponent affected by the antimagic field, your weapon won't be considered magical because its attacking into the field. As well, when they are attacking you, their magical enhancements will function because the weapon is hitting you out of the antimagic field.

This said though, I think adding the shaped antimagic field in this fashion would cause problems, because the DM would have to tailer his encounters to negate your character Voidrazer. Your forcing him to make the choice between not being able to affect you at all, or destroying you.

The last problem for you would be your spellcasting would become useless for anything but personal buffs, since the field blocks you from the enemy. If you put holes to shoot through, you encounter 2 issues. The first is that they can shoot spells back into the holes, and the second is there isn't really any rules coverage to state the holes would manuever with you, making targeting through then much more complicated.

I don't know though. I've always liked to see antimagic field as a you are or you aren't type spell. Adding halfway situations just gives everyone a headache.

To me anti-magic field is and will always be just as it states in the book.. you can hang doilies and ribbons and rainbow off it and it's still will always be good ole' reliable anti-magic field.... the spell is badass enough as it is.... I think allowing people to screw with something that isn't already broken is a baaaddd idea heh.... those are just my two cents though.....

I had to delay the start a little bit, but I should be putting the IC thread up soon.

You will be able to post as soon as your character is deemed 'ready to go' (See my last post for a list of what needs to be fixed/added to certain characters).

Sigh... looks like i'll actually have to create my empire... i'll be replacing elusive target with leadership and using my followers as my employees spead across the world, my cohort will stay behind to mind "shop" when we leave. but it does give me an extr source of income... no matter how slight it is....

also will go back and fix the errors you pointed out but will wait on the gear section till i figure out how i messed up and what i'm doing to fix it

I'm curious what you would use to shape an AMF that would allow it to be a "bubble" around a character of magic, but then the rest in the AMF?

EDIT - if it's Mastery of Shaping then I would say it should probably work like the cheese RAW, but any magic weapons or arrows that hit will still have all their magic properties on them, just no buffs on the melee type against you. I think it's pretty clever, but I'm not the DM :)

Yep, that's what I had in mind. Its far from unbeatable, and there are any number of strategies that would render a 'hole in the middle' AMF ineffective, without being particularly strong against the other players (i.e. a tiny opponent could just fly into my character's space, or worse, an Arcane Archer could use Imbue Arrow to hit my character with spell effect without mine being able to return the favor.

Anyway, I'm thinking of bagging the idea since other players are uncomfortable with it. Also, getting into Archmage would eat up a bunch of feats.
