Gaming W/Jemal: Planar Quest IC (Prologue)

"A moon, between half and nothing," Mei replies a little testily. She sketches a crescent shape in the air with a fingertip. "It was burned onto its face like a brand."

She looks at Braham quizzically, then considers. "No," she decides. "Not because I didn't see it well enough, but because the place it's in is always changing. The room itself might be the same, but everything else is different. And I don't know for sure that the vision showed the room as it literally is. It could have had symbolic or metaphoric content too. Besides, it's undoubtedly shielded from teleportation."

A thoughtful look crosses her face then. "But...it might still be findable. It is the one piece of that plane that is NOT constantly shifting and moving. We may not be able to target it directly, but if we can get a broad sense of the Far Realm...with enough detail to notice a small room adrift within it...we may be able to find it."

"Could have a peek through the portal," suggests Ur, ever practical, "analyze it from this side." Assuming it's a portal, of course. Or they could send a snatch and grab party, possibly, gather up some of the substance of the place, make a spell that can see through it...? Step after quiet step, up the stairwell of that thought: "Aren't abominations from there?"

(Meanwhile he can't quite get the word them out of his head: them. For some reason, he's seeing the Key breaking apart into a churning pile of shining, mechanical spiders, crawling and clinking their way forward into an unsuspecting world... Probably nonsense.)

"A moon, between half and nothing," Mei replies a little testily. She sketches a crescent shape in the air with a fingertip. "It was burned onto its face like a brand."
"Hm?" blinks the bald monk, nonplused. Oh. A negative hand gesture: "The Key."

<Response Mei Ying?>

Darrian is off to one side talking to one of the servants. Snatches of conversation drift over. "...Good effects... Darkness nice touch... Casually mention shop as place of purchases... Look there first for special requests..." After the briefing the servant bows and walks out. Darrianturns to the group, "Using the portal is not really an option as we are. It scrys on anyplace the user has seen and opens to where you are scrying. That's why we need the illithid. Either he has a way there him self or we need his memories. Most planer travel won't even be able to get us there without some sort of focus or substance..." He pauses for effect, "From there."

"Not to mention that whoever scries there, they might lose their mind."

[Sblock=jemal]Gerard tries to contact 'the being' once again with inquiries:
[mental concentration] 'you seem to know much of this place. What hazard is there in scrying there? What hazards are there in going there'[/mental concentration]

"Only what I know from Iridex." comes the reply, though Gerard can sense a degree of apprehension.[/sblock]

Mei Ying nods at Ur and takes a copper coin from her purse. She clasps it between her hands, and magic energy flares and ripples. Copper twists and stretches, then plomps out into a small replica of the device she glimpsed within the vision, sitting in the palm of her hand.

(Using the revised Pmorph Any Object spell we discussed in the OOC thread)

"Only what I know from Iridex." comes the reply, though Gerard can sense a degree of apprehension.[/sblock]

[sblock=jemal]Gerard concentrates and thinks, 'I do not demand any thing of you. I ask for you to freely give. But I humbly ask, what are you not saying?'[/sblock]

Ur leans in, curious to see what they seek... "Was it moving, Ying?" And, perhaps more importantly: "Can it fit in a bag of holding?" Scale is impossible to tell from the tiny copper model... It's incredibly detailed though.

OOC: What does the coin now look like, Jemal? Can Ur deduce anything about its mechanical functions, if any?

Oh and :cool: Shayuri! Much better than an illusion. :)

EDIT=
"Not to mention that whoever scries there, they might lose their mind."
"You were going to protect us from that," reminds the dwarf with pointedly raised eyebrows.

The device did not seem active or moving when Mei Ying saw it, but Ur's engineering skill tells him from the highly detailed replica that it contains many moving parts.

[sblock=Big picture]
The device is about 2 feet tall.

OOC: Shayuri : The God of Change blesses that object for the coolness of what you just did. It can now transform in that manner with the expenditure of any spell slot except cantrips, so long as it's always cool and small, and doesn't have any 'real' usage other than descriptive/RP/fun.
Scott : Gimme a diplomacy check.
Anybody else have input/questions, or suggestions for the second vision?
