Gaming W/Jemal: Planar Quest IC (Prologue)

Mei-Ying shakes her head. "Nothing like that. The Vision is shaped by the collective knowledge of every being in the cosmos, targeted simply by the caster's will. It is a powerful divination, but there is no way to guide it beyond choosing the subject."

The servants return, rather pleased with themselves. Not only had they managed to find the scrolls, but a specialist Diviner had given them a deal - three specialized scrolls, with the only extra charge being a request for the Raven's to spread the word about how well his Divinations work.

OOC: OK, So, you have three visions scrolls, CL 20, but with an additional+2 from a specialist.
First Vision (1d20+22=39)
Second Vision (1d20+22=30)
OK, both the first two visions 'work', so unless you say otherwise I'll say you save the third.
Technically, Vision IS a question based spell, but to avoid the 'wording issues', I'll just say 'name what you want to have a vision about'.
Are you looking for a vision about the mind flayer? Someone who may know about the key? the key itself? The far realms?
Remember you have two 'successful' visions. If you wish to double-tap one thing in the hopes of extra info, that is also an option. I just need you to tell me what/who you're wanting the vision about, and who's using the scrolls.

[sblock=Gerard]
[sblock=or Scott DeWar]
[sblock=And maybe his headband]
Iridex had planned to go to the Far Realms once he was finished on the prime, he rambled sometimes about the great power hidden there, and that it was his key. Given that Iridex was a mage, that might have been him knowing about the magic key.. but then again, the Archlich was rather crazy.
As far as the far realms - Gerard and his headband know pretty much what the others have already covered.
"One more thing." she mentally informs him "Iridex claimed that it was a mixture of all the dead planes, gods, everything that was too powerful to simply die.. they all went there and became a soup of insanity. I always had a theory that it's where his mind was imprisoned before he was freed."

Gerard had remained in deep meditation the whole time the scrolls were being purchased, not moving except to sip his wine, not speaking except to ask for another goblet. When the scrolls arrive, he finally breaks his silence to the fellow heroes.

"I have knowledge that may be helpful for the vision spells."

His voice becomes strangely hollow in an otherworldly way.

" 'Iridex had planned to go to the Far Realms once he was finished on the prime, he rambled sometimes about the great power hidden there, and that it was his key. Given that Iridex was a mage, that might have been him knowing about the magic key.. but then again, the Archlich was rather crazy.' "

"One more thing I am told, Iridex claimed that it was a mixture of all the dead planes, gods, everything that was too powerful to simply die.. they all went there and became a soup of insanity.My source always had a theory that it's where his mind was imprisoned before he was freed."

Then in his normal voice, "That is all we know."

[sblock=OOC Stuff]I was thinking of using the Visions on the Key itself. It seems like the Far Realms has a fair amount of information available from more conventional means of inquiry, and the mind flayer in question we can follow up on in other ways as well. The Key however is enigmatic, we know nothing of its nature besides that it represents one of three very broad categories of power. That makes other kinds of research nearly impossible. I'd suggest using the first on the Key, and depending on the clarity of the result, possibly the second as well.[/sblock]

Braham says "Thanks, Gerard. Sounds ..." Braham does not want to admit again to fear. "Chaotic."

I'd say to use one vision to inquire about the key itself, and the other to inquire about something that might lead to the key, like a clue or someone who might know something. But I'm no expert on far planes or divinations."

"They don't have to be. Just anyone who knows anything about them."
"If it's outside, the spell won't be using the knowledge of its inhabitants," points out Ur before thinking about what he's saying some more: they won't be tapping the knowledge of insanity-causing creatures with bodies (and minds?) so strange they could have been dreamed by some mad Gods? A grimly amused smile: "You're right, Ying." As always. "Probably for the best then."

"Too powerful to simply die..." repeats the dwarf on his side, before blinking. "The Stars?" If so, that might just happen to be where their cultists are most active, busily thinning the veil and/or begining to explore the outskirts of madness itself...

Without further ado the bearded one goes to accept the scrolls from the servant's hands with a thanking nod. "You are helping forge the future of our world," he tells them, dark gaze steady with utter conviction, before turning, closing and finally presenting the three ornate, near identical cylinders to the magically-inclined in the group. "You want help with the preparations?" unhurried gaze covering both Gerard, Braham and Mei Ying.

(Ur has already shown that he has excellent spatial memory, near endless concentration and a steady hand -- partly from his background as a builder of houses and temples, partly from an acute sharpening of those through some of Zann's mental techniques he's starting to learn of late: if there are circles to prepare, items to position or complex chants to endlessly repeat, Ur is your dwarf. :))

OOC: Scott, does the rest of the group know anything about your source (or Jemal in your absence, I guess)? i.e. has he done this before and did he answer questions at that time? If not: "Who is your source, Gerard? The lich said none of those things while we were there."

this would be new for Gerard to do

"Who is your source, Gerard? The lich said none of those things while we were there."

"I do not know who she is, perhaps a former prisoner of the arch lich, set free by our actions. You make a valid connection with regard to the stars. interesting about the madness of Wade and where we are to go."
