Gamma World ? Any New News ?

Those were some of the best games my group had also. I remember my PSH's search for a power cell for his MkV blaster was one of the best and at the same time one of the most infuriating games I've played in. :D

When it comes dpwn to it, if GW6 allows a complete and faithful conversion of Legion of Gold I'll be a very happy man. I'll worry about the gritty/light-hearted argument after I run my players through that classic adventure.

Amen to GW6, VorpalBunny!!

I'm sorry to say Neo but it does not sound like you've played much GW. Gamma World has never had that post apocalyptic "grit" you talk about (with the exception of the last version, which to die-hard fans was not GW). GW has always been off the mark, light hearted and more fantasy than sci-fi. I have every rule set and adventure ever published and played all the versions. GW has never been gritty, Mad Max-ish. I'll be very disappointed if its too serious. There are plenty of sci-fi post apocalyptic games, I want my old simple sci-fantasy setting. Sometimes less is more. And I think Omega World was very good for the most part.

heh actually Gallo22 I've played all 1st to 4th (but not Alternity) a bunch over the last 23 years I've been gaming. It is in fact after AD&D (as it was then) the second most commonly played game I've ever GM'ed throughout that time and I am familiar with every aspect of it.

Running 2nd edition and the legion of Gold for my Brother and Cousins is still one of the fondest recollections I have... and every version has been full of grit and grim, sure it was cool trying to workout whether or not a gum dispenser was some sort of ranged weapon or not but that isn't what I mean when I say I'm hoping the imminent version won't be comedic (which by the sounds of it, it won't be some I'm happy) as that aspect was just an enjoyable aspect of the game.

And I certainly haven't read ro seen anything about any previous editions to make me think it was intended as a comedic game as I felt Omega was presented (though was still very well produced mind).

GW is VERY Mad Maxi'sh, very Omega Man ish, even to a point very Fallout'ish.... but it certainly isn't and has never been Toon'ish :D

As far as this next incarnation is concerned Bruce has alreayd put my fears to bed and answered my main worries over it, and I'm looking forward to getting my grubby little mits on this book when it comes out.

Good! I'm glad you did not take my comment as an attack or put down. So many on En world take things the wrong way!

While FULLY I agree that GW is not and should not be Toon-ish or comedic. I personally don't see it as serious as Mad Max or like Omega Man (a great movie btw!). I see GW like Thundarr the Barbarian or Flash Gordan-ish. I guess we just have different look/feel to how the game should be. I hope the new rules fit both our needs. I'm just personally tired of the die-hard serious sci-fi stuff. I'm more Star Wars than Star Trek. I. E. : I was disappointed to hear the mutated plant rules were not in the new book. Oh Well! I'll just have to change afew things to my taste. I just think if the game is too far off track, it won't work just like alternity. I hope I'm wrong, but I think I'm right!

Yup I think I probably should have worded my original query better. What I didn't want was a version of the game that put it firmly on one side of the fence or the other, but as has been the case with most versions (certainly 1st, 2nd and 4th) a game that can be played out to suit individual taste of Post Apocalypsia.

so yeah were actually in totall agreeance for what were after lol :D

Perhaps mutant plants might show up in a future sourcebook?

I hope mutant plants show up. I loved them in 3rd and 4th edtion. Fourth is still my favorite edition, it being closest to 3E to begin with. But my longest campaign was a mutant hybrid of 3rd and TMNT. I loved that game! :)

I hear what your saying and I agree alittle, but don't we already have gritty post-apoc's out there? I guess I just like the "flying squirrels w/ laser eyes to the other.

The two aren't mutally exclusive. I know I specifically included laser-beam-eyeballs critters in my work, along with plenty of other goofy things. But they're presented with a straight face.

I think people who were disappointed with the Alternity version of Gamma World will find this much more to their liking.
