[Gamma World] In my grubby little hands

Having looked over the book I think it looks great. As for the lack of FX that falls into the D20 Modern style imo. D20 Modern gives the gm more control for making their own fx and I can see the use for it in GW as there were a lot of mutations and such to transfer over. Also with the change in how mutations occur you have to rethink are they possible anymore and if so how or what would actually cause them based on what we now know, which is what they are trying to do with the game now. I expect to see a lot of the really powerful fx show up in the gm book. Other mutations will most likely show up in other books along the way. SS is giving us what we want and hopefully more, lets give them time to get the job done. Maybe after the gm book and the other two books we can give a better review of the new edition all together.

It does? All my copy of d20M has is a list of spells. Not to mention, the four (FOUR!) different systems for FX in GW don't correspond to the FX systems presented in the d20M book in any way, shape, or form. Some of the designers have stated that the intention (not stated explixitly in the book) is for players and GMs to just wing it. I find this fairly questionable.

According to some designers posting at RPG.net, there are no expanded FX rules in any of the products currently slated for production. There are enough people griping about it that it was hinted they might consider expanding them at some point... maybe.

FWIW, I don't feel like S&SS is giving me what I wanted. Future products will, one hopes, flesh things out some more, but I have to question the need for me to buy four 200+ page hardcover books just to get a semi-complete view of a relatively "simple" setting like Gamma World. The PHB alone has more pages than entire editions of GW did in the past, and it really doesn't provide much to work with, imho.

Still, if you're happy with it, then good for you; you got your money's worth. I'll likely be returning it once I'm done writing my review.

I was also someone that wasn't extremely pleased with GW D20. However, I think it gives a good, albeit simple, base to build on. I'm going to add material from other sources like Savage Species (for humanoid animals), Darwin's World, Rifts/After the Bomb, and homebrew to flesh out the setting where I feel that S&SS left it thin. I'm hoping that future releases will expand on the setting further (I believe Mutants and Machines will be a step in this direction), but if not, there are enough other books out there that I can add to GW D20 to make it feel just like older editions of the great setting.

My one big hope for Mutants and Machines is that there is an intelligent cactus species. My first GW character (2nd or 3rd edition...it's been a looooong time) was an intelligent gunslinging cactus named Prickly Bill. Fun times.
