I got GW yesterday and have pretty much digested the whole thing. Really if you know 4E, learning the differences in this is a breeze. But there is another major mechanical difference between DND PC's and GW PC's that I don't think has been mentioned. The math is actually somewhat different.
In DND your typical check /attack would be d20 + half-level + modifier
In GW your typical check / attack would be d20 + level + modifier
I don't have the book in front of me, but I could swear that's right. Just keep that in mind if you plan to do any kind of cross-over.
On weapons:
I do like the fast and loose approach to weapon and ammo management. However it does come at the price of some diversity. Like lets say a character wanted his light gun to be a sawed-off shotgun. A single-target ranged 10 shot feels kinda weird in that respect. I'm thinking of house-ruling some minor gun variations. Like I don't think it would break the game to make sawed-off shotgun range change from a 10 to a blast 3 and treat it as a light gun. I hope doing something like that doesn't step on the toes of powers or Omega tech. Likewise I'm thinking of some "spray" rules for autofire weapons. Maybe a mashup of the 'power attack' feat...
