Gargantuan Orcus at GenCon

When "gargantuan orcus" was reported, someone from WotC said that there was an error in the product description. Apparently not- unless the prototype is larger than the final version, the figure really pushes even gargantuan dimensions. It's spilling over the base practically everywhere.

It does say prototype. Maybe the figure wasn't supposed to be Gargantuan, but they decided to make it so after the feedback.

You mean, WotC might have been deceiving?

They never do that!

(*Ahem* D&D Experience *Ahem*)

I noticed that his Iconic wand is made up of a skull with the spine as the rest, not to my taste, makes it more of a flail then the mace-like weapon it has been through 3 editions. Being a prototype hopely they will change it back to a wand then a Predator wantabe. I'll probably still get it though because overall it does look cool.

IMO change for the sake of change or change because someone is new and wants to imprint their vision on an iconic image has never been to my liking.

An example of this is like all the uniform changes for Star Trek: TNG in the movies. Too many uniform changes from movie to movie because of a new costume designer or director or what ever is different for this movie.

Or Strad is a D&D example.

Finally, a god emerges worthy of my worship.

I shall prepare for the arrival of Your Abyssal Majesty . . . provided I can get my wife's permission.

Sadly, she outranks even you, Dark Lord.

I don't know, I think the change is interesting and is a nice change to differentiate a new look without completely revamping him (he's the lord of the undead, so lets make him look like a rotted corpse!). I agree the classic look would have worked better for me than this version.

You are correct: I did say there was an error. I don't recall if I actually said it was in the *product* description though. My memory is faulty at times so feel free to prove me wrong ;)

The unspecified error was regarding the release date. We won't be releasing the Gar Orcus in March 2008 as reported by amazon. I cannot say when we'll be releasing the product, but not becuase I'm trying to keep it a secret...just because we are working out the best timing for this item within our release schedule. Nothing sinister, I promise.

I tried to be specifically vague when mentioning the error, not intentionally misleading, so I apologize if it looks like a WotC rep was being deceiving. I wouldn't lead you astray on purpose!

Why? You have something big on the schedule to worry about? :D

Nope, no misleading statements here. I have issues with quite a number of WotC statements in the last year, but this one was properly vague.

Interesting tidbit. Apparently the code name for 4th edition was "Orcus."

Maybe why this is coming out. That way there was a real Orcus project to throw off people close enough to know stuff, but not close enough to know about 4E.
