Today is Gary Gygax's birthday. As you probably know, Gary was one of the two co-creaters of Dungeons & Dragons in the 1970s, and sadly passed away in 2008.

Be sure to check out EN World's History of TSR, which includes a lot of material related to Gary (from interviews to his epic Q&As right here on EN World, which I've listed below). More importantly, those threads were compiled into a book called Cheers, Gary! which you could buy from the Gygax Memorial Fund (I think they're sold out now, though).

Also, be sure to read Rel's account of an EN World moderators' D&D game run by Gary Gygax at Gen Con some years ago. [HI][threadcm]http://www.enworld.org/forum/showthread.php?204729-Gaming-with-Gygax[/threadcm][/HI]

Gary posted under the username "Col_Pladoh" here on EN World, and was always personable and happy to talk.

The Gygax Memorial Fund is a charity set up by Gail Gygax "to commission and place a memorial in a public park of Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, to honor Gary Gygax by commemoration of literary achievement in the creation of Dungeons & Dragons and other published works". If you have the time, please check it out and perhaps consider helping in some way!

I was able to stop by Ernie's and toast his father's contribution to our gaming lives, look over some of the fire-ravaged games Ernie pulled from the wreckage of his former digs, and sneak in a little gaming of our own.

I ran a game of Pathfinder Society for a rag tag group of adventurers!
I can top that!

I celebrated Gary's birthday by killing half the PCs with a 12d6 fireball thrown by a green slaad in our bi-weekly AD&D game. Next up, trying to get the incinerated magic-user either raised (by the !Buddha) or reincarnated (by the !Princess Mononoke), and bringing in a replacement for the roasted cleric; Honey Boo Baggins (guess what two popular characters she's based on?).

The whole campaign is kinda a tribute to Gygxian D&D.

Wow. There's no way in hell I can top this. Nicely done!
