Gathering interest -- X-COM Covert Agent

Someone

Adventurer
It is the year 2006. Unidentified Flying Objects (UFOs) have started appearing
with disturbing regularity in the night skies. Reports of violent human abductions
and horrific experimentation has struck terror into the hearts of millions. Mass
public hysteria has only served to expose Earth’s impotence against a vastly
superior technology.
Many countries have attempted to deal independently with the aliens. In
August 2005, Japan established an anti-alien combat force; the Kiryu-Kai.
Equipped with Japanese-made fighter aircraft, the Kiryu-Kai certainly looked like
a powerful force. However, after 5 months of expensive operations they had yet
to intercept their first UFO. The lesson was clear: this was a worldwide problem
which could not be dealt with by individual countries.
On December 11, 2005, representatives from the world’s most economically
powerful countries gathered secretly in Geneva. After much debate, the decision
was made to establish a covert independent body to combat, investigate and
defeat the alien threat. This organization would be equipped with the world’s
finest pilots, soldiers, scientists and engineers, working together as one multinational
force.
This organization was named X-COM: Extraterrestrial Combat Unit.

Many of you have should played the popular X-COM series and so will be familiar with the background and the game. In this game the players will not play the the soldiers that fought the aliens afer the UFOs landed or were shot down, but the covert agents that were briefly mentioned when they discovered an alien base; of course, that won´t be your only task, but also infiltrate earth organizations controlled by aliens, discover what earth goverments have deals with them, etc, mixing spionage and classic alien horror (with some Bond-esque gadgets once alien tech is starting to be available)

This game isn´t going to start soon. I paln to use D20 modern for it, and a) I have to read it, since i´ve just downloaded the SRD (sorry, we dont have available the book here) and b) Design the plot and first adventure, so it´ll take a couple weeks at the very least. So I´d want to know who´s interested, and what you thinks what´d make this a great game.

I never played X-COM, but I'm always interested in playing a d20 Modern style game. I'm sure you'll get plenty of interest once you are ready to go.

For your benefit and of those that don´t know about the game, it was basically a strategy, turn based game with an isometric perspective. In that respect, it was very good, but what made it great was the managing aspect: you also had to control the money income to buy new bases and improve them, hire more scientists and engineers, buy or manufacture equipment and crafts. As you downed and recovered UFOs and captured live aliens you could research them, gaining more technology (to help with every aspect of the game, from weapons and armor to base defense and psionic powers), until you eventually learned about the alien´s origins and had the chance to stop them once and for all.

Our game would share some of those themes; the increasing alien aggresiveness, superior technology and eventual use by the earth´s forces.

yeah I'd be interested.

I LOVED the original X-COM game.

So getting the opportunity to do something similar in a RPG?

COUNT ME IN!!!!
