Quite Pinky...

Has anyone else noticed that there is all of a sudden several books on making the GMs job easier?

Toolbox
etc...

Hi,

i bought the toolbox recently. Since i will be GMing on the fly a lot this book will definitely spare me some trouble. We all know those player questions "yeah YOU say, that guy is unimportant - i don't believe it. What are the names and professions of all in his family-tree and what's the race of his horse, anyway?!" (DMs head...*thunk*)
Well, the Toolbox really seems to cover it all. Even 3 tables for Horse names .-) pets, too. and lots more...i really didn't get halfway through it. So far i can only recommend it with 2 thumbs up, since it is a useful source for fast info-gathering PLUS you can use it with most fantasy-rpg's. Only my 2cents.

For the terminally math illiterate, could you provide an English translation? That is, go through the beast step by step. I'm assuming "log(P)" is the first step, but…

In other words, explain it to me as it was first explained to you, back in the days when long division was still a neat trick and basic calculus might as well have been a bunch of arcane formulae.

Yes, I am the victim of a horrid math education.

Toolbox
World Builder (aka 1001 ways to be more descriptive in a fantasy setting)
Dungeoncraft
NPC essentials.

I actually plan on buying all of these....

I have the NPC Essentials book. It's pretty good. What is Toolbox?

Well, Toolbox is a book full of tables. For nearly everything. Need a list of herbs, since your char suddenly decided to go apothecarian? got it. need random names? no problem. etc.
And they all work with a d20, so you can as easily roll for a kind of trap as for sth else, while your players won't know what it is what you are doing, since it could be, well, anything really :o)

I picked up toolbox today. That book kicks but. I feel sorry for anyone who tries to run somthing out of it using only it. Its a great tool if your players ever decide to "Hey, lets go look around in that forest over there! Saving the world can wait a week..."

I got a good look at World Builder. All I can say is "Snore." There were about four useful pages in that book. The one page I wanted to photocopy was the one on Clouds and what weather is associated with them. I use clouds and distant hills and the terrain a lot in my descriptions and that would have been nive. Also, the bole sizes of common trees looked handy. I wish that was 2 charts they had in the Toolbox. Bole size and Rock size.

Gonna go check out NPC essentials this weekend. From what I saw of the book in the preview I think it will rock. However I plan on buying it PDF, but I want to see the whole thing first.

Aaron.
