I think part of it is that we live in the entertainment world Buffy created. It feels a lot less revelatory and necessary now, having kicked the door open so wide that tons of media has expanded on what it helped establish.I’ve never liked Buffy the Vampire Slayer and it’s popularity is confusing.

I liked both Buffy and Angel at the time (and I thought Eden Studios did a bang up job with the RPGs) but Whedon’s toxic voyeuristic brand of pseudo-feminism, as typified by Xander, tasted pretty bad to me then as now. It would have been nice to see SMG try to reclaim her character in the sequel series but I guess we won’t see that now.I’ve never liked Buffy the Vampire Slayer and it’s popularity is confusing.
That said, I’m sad the reboot/revival got cancelled cause it’s clear folks really really like Buffy.
I would bet on Buffy returning some time in the near future. The franchise is a lot stronger than, say, Charmed, which got a four-season return. (I would also bet on us seeing more Supernatural in the future for the same reason, but probably as an animated show.)I liked both Buffy and Angel at the time (and I thought Eden Studios did a bang up job with the RPGs) but Whedon’s toxic voyeuristic brand of pseudo-feminism, as typified by Xander, tasted pretty bad to me then as now.
