[Gen Con 04] The Insane Game - Updated 8/15/03!

I was planning on going this year but last minute cash troubles kept me out. One big game sounds very interesting!

I'm definitely up for this! If needed I can DM, though I'd rather play.

Ashy, put me down to assist with logistics or prep work between now & next July.

I think the best time and place to do this would be at Clay's (Mark) brother's bar on Sunday. People who die can eat drink and be merry and watch the rest unfold. Location can be very flexible.

I think having it at a bar is a VERY bad idea. Even if it's a great place, you're immediatly tossing out any player under 21, which isn't a good thing.

I am much more in favor of the "multiple angles to a big event" type of scenario over the "fight it out with each other" type of thing. Not to say there cannot be conflict between characters, but the former would lend itself to various players showing off various strengths (tactics, effective use of spells/abilities, role playing, problem solving, etc) better, which means more people would enjoy it, I think.

I also dig the switching groups at some point through the scenario idea.

Again, I'd like to help out however.

I agree. While a Game of Death type thing would be fun and all, it doesn't really appeal to as many people as an adventure would.

Well, at least a restaurant with a bar, then. :D

I wholeheartedly agree!!!! I've got a few years before I'm 21, and I'll be damned if I'm forced out of this one!

Anyhow, I'd love to help in whatever way that I can. Hell I'd even volunteer my services as a DM...but they really aren't needed with the amount of talent that we have on this board. I'm sure that I'm really a rather useless DM. But if you're desperate... :)

TB's idea of scenes makes a lot of sense to me, and I like the idea of multiple groups of very different kinds of characters working towards a "common" goal. Can't rightly remember who said it right now but the "Group A is thieves breaking in, Group B is the guards looking for thieves.... etc." thing sounds VERY cool.

Count me in for whatever you need.

JIzzle in the Snizzle, DIZZLE!

what?

anyhow, I've been to one PRG con and its was just kinda weird but then it wasnt GENCON!

here is what I see as what you fellas need.

First and foremost a way to include a gagillion people in a PnP D20 game

Secondly a way to keep it moving

Theres been some great ideas I liked (LarryFitz, TeflonBilly).

Could it be broken down into different scenarios as people have suggested and at the end of the scenario only one PC can go to the next scene, the person voted best RPGer at the table or whatever.

Over three or four scenarios your down to one group of PCs 4-6 people. these are the people that will go back to the evil lords castle with all the orcs defending it.

This is where you bring back everyone that played before for the BIG FIGHT SCENE! and mass chaos. All the EnWorlders that played take up on one side of the fight and make it so the final group of PCs can engage the BadGuy.

The PC vs BadGuy fight could be done on stage with the players and Pirate Cat or whoever DMs all miked!

you could set up guidelines for character creation for the RPG part and then just have pregened characters for people when they come back for the Big Battle.

This way you get a little of everything. A chance to run a game and roleplay as well as have a hundred thousand EnWorlders all hackin away at the same time.

I dont know...just an idea. If this gets off the ground let me know. I'd make an effort to get to GenCon to see it or play in it rather.

good luck

Well, this is certainly an interesting idea... If I can make it to GenCon, I'll be definitely playing.

Teflon Billy's idea sounds the best, thus far. It'd strike a nice balance between combat and roleplaying. What one group does in Scene 1 affects what another group will have to deal with in Scene 2. Say, Group A, the city watch group, arrests a thief in Act 1, and Group B, the thieves' guild group, will receive word that their spy was caught by the guards in the next scene...
