Going to Gen Con this year for the first time ever. For those who have been, any general pointers on what's fun, or what to avoid?

If it's your first time, I'd say don't specifically try to avoid anything. Take in as much as you can. Get there a day early - two days if you can manage it - spend the Tuesday exploring downtown Indy and finding out what's where, then sign in on Wednesday and explore the (huge!) convention centre, again to find out what's where. There's lots of stuff usually goes on on Wed evening.

If it still runs, Hickman's Killer Breakfast is a can't-miss (and if he's not doing it any more, that's a big loss).

Be prepared to lose entire days - and spend a wad o' cash! - in the dealers' hall and auction room.

@Clint_L is going, so I'll page him in here.

Be aware that if you want to get into the consignment store (which is part of the auction room) the line to get in has become a considerable wait over the last few years.

Unfortunately, @Clint_L usually keeps me blocked.
