I jogged along it on Thursday and Friday mornings; it's a local rendition of the usual disused waterfront gentrification scheme.

I walked a good deal of its length Monday morning and took a few dozen pictures. It's dotted with landmarks, museums, and public art that impressed me quite a bit.

I forgot an ugly

the Male Belly Dancer......

OMG!

I swear, he was like a cold shower after all the hawttie belly dancers.

The sweat pouring in and out of his navel...

/me shudders

Good for him for participating, but DANG.

/me reaches for PKitty's spoons

Just before the costume contest (around 14h30 or so), there was a belly dancing exhibit. Nice enough stuff, although as usual for the 'Cons, the emphasis was on belly. However the talent and brilliant costumes of the ladies overwhelmed any misgivings as to the girls' girth.

But the guy... yikes.

The Good

-The really nice EnWorlders I met!
-My room-buddy, travel-buddy and GM, Threshel. He helped make the trip fun!
-Playing in so many games run by its' designer or someone closely associated.
-Running into two friends from out-of-town at the airport who where making a connection, as it turns out, on the plane I was taking; and having them sit in the row in front of me. It was meant to be!
-Indianapolis...that town rocks on toast!
-Meeting folks I only know on other forums as Usernames. I hope to see you all soon.
-I got to eat at a White Castle! This may not be a big deal, but don't got'em in the NE.
-Meeting so many folks in the gaming industry, it was amazing!

The Cons

-Not getting to know the EnWorlders better...I hope to change this next year.
-The cabbies that obviously worked way to much.."does everyone stay at that hotel!" YIKES.
-True Heroes didn't live up to expectations; technical difficulties and a "challenging" group.
-Folks behind me in line grabing books and getting in line behind us...really uncool.
-Found a cheap soda machine, only to see it sell out on Friday and no one re-filling it.

The Ugly

-Nothing...This was my first Gencon and I have to say I was impressed!

The place I found was a few blocks North and East of the convention -

O'Malia's Food Market
320 N. New Jersey St.
Indianapolis, IN 46204

That's where the hotel was supposed to be sending us, but their directions were horrible: "Go to this intersection, and look around. The people there are nice, someone will tell you how to find it"

Needless to say, we drove around for about 30 minutes and finally just gave up.

Next year, I'm just bringing stuff from hoime. Since I drive I have room in my truck for extras like food.

The Good:

The NASCRAG D&D team advancement tournament was once again BRILLIANT BEYOND WORDS! This is the most fun you can possibly have at GenCon in my opinion.

It runs paralell to the OPEN, but is 1000 times better.

Numerous first rounds run Thursday & Friday. Round 2 starts on Saturday at 1:00, and Round 3 starts Saturday night at 7:00.

Mark your calendars for next year, and take my word for it. This is the best of the best.

The Bad:
The D&D open... once the crown jewel of the Con, has now been completely commercialized and ruined. They put some troll Called S-R-M in charge of it, and he has completely ruined it. The Hasbro marketing department now writes the scenarios, and the Hasbro legal department has lawyers on staff to over see it. The OPEN has lost it's soul.

The Ugly:
Made it until saturday night without getting blasted by some inconsiderate slob who apparantly managed to not use any soap or deoderant despite all the jokes, postings, chatter and everything else said about it. Even Peter Adkison himself put big plug for soap and deoderant every day into the gencon program.

Book the Nascrag Next Year! You'll be glad you did!
