Gen Con - Good bad and ugly

that story is still troublesome even upon hearing it again!

Indeed. I told it to my wife, and when Francisca posted it, she copied it and posted it over to a parenting forum. It should be interesting to hear the responses...

There was one other Bad I forgot to mention:

The Release of Shadowrun 4e. FanPro originally said they would be selling 50 limited edition copies each day, in addition to the regular copies. Then, due to some problems, they didn't get nearly as many copies in or on time. So I ended up waiting in line for almost two hours on Saturday to pick up a copy. I was number 34 in line. They ended up selling 33 copies of the 50 they had.

This wouldn't have been so bad (I mean I can handle not getting a copy at GenCon and can wait till October), except for the guy who cut in line about 4 people up to join a friend of his already waiting so they could each get a copy (limit 1/customer). Of course, since I couldn't really prove he cut in line to the FanPro guys, I missed out on my copy. That really ticked me off.

India Garden - about 2 blocks down from the corner of Embassy Suites - past the italian place there. OH. MY. GOD. Is that *GOOD* Indian food. Try the lunch buffet - you'll stuff yourself. The chai tea is incredibly good. Dessert... mhmmm - This place made Shem and I's list of "must visit during gencon next year" list.

I'm glad to see someone went to the Garden. We who work in downtown Indy worship that place.

Thing is, if you go there for lunch, you may be sleeping through your afternoon due to food coma...

Oh man, now I want to go today...

Ah, I guess we just didn't figure out who to ask. We couldn't get a straight answer from the hotel staff.

So, where is the nearest grocery store? Is driving required?
Mark beat me to it. I actually had forgotten O'Malia's over on Joizey, and it's closer than what I had in mind. There is also at least one Trader Joe's in town as well, as well as "regular" grocery stores, Marsh being one of the bigger outfits with several stores around town and central IN.

Sorry but I'm pretty fazed by restaurants breaking the law once by violating the labour code and then making it up for it by breaking the law again by ripping off the customers.

Except that the restaurant isn't breaking the law in either case, at least not in the U.S. The exception to the minimum wage law for food service workers in positions where tips are customary is written into the law. The restaurant probably has a sign up, reasonably prominently displayed near the entrance giving the details of their policy for automatic gratuities for large parties. If your service was terribly bad, your recourse is usually to talk to the manager and he may vary the policy on automatic gratuities, or comp some of your meal.

as long as the parents, and not the game, take the blame. :D

Every time I tried to register for an event, I was told it was sold out. From what I've heard of no-shows and the event registration system, I'm pretty suspicious of it all.

I think you guys are making more out of this than it is. Sold out games and plenty of no shows has been a constant at Gen Con for over 20 years. People buy tickets to something, decide to do something else because it seems cooler or is running long or they just need more sleep or food, and then don't show up to event they have tickets for. Every time I've run a game at Gen Con, even when sold out, I've accepted one or two generic tickets. That's what they're for. In fact, I know people who pretty much just buy generic tickets (and maybe a tournament or two) and hope to get into games that way. They usually do pretty well.
