GEN CON Registration

After vainly trying since 3pm (PST), it finally started working at 4:50pm.

I was able to pick a badge, check out, and do hotel reservations with no issues. Almost as if something was specifically broken, rather than just too much traffic earlier.

This year, I decided to try the Hyatt. I'll be glad not to have to walk in the rain. And, fyi, the Hyatt is still around $140/night, so I don't know why the Marriott would be charging over $300 like I saw upthread.
The Mariott was charging 300/night outside the Gen Con system - If I recall correctly, it was a great deal cheaper *inside* the system. Most rooms could be acquired for between 138-150 dollars/night if I recall correctly.

I'm sorry, but I'm not happy with that excuse. They promised to fix things last year, after the event registration fiasco. This is what Peter posted:

I posted at the beginning of this year, concerned about whether or not changes were actually made. Here is the post:

Now, my problem is that they hadn't even bothered to address last years problems yet. The first year, the registration line was shut down completely on Saturday. The 2nd year, the online event registration was screwed up. This year, GenCon is off to another bad start.

Oh I agree, I didn't think that was a very good excuse either. Maybe three weeks before registration wasn't the time to bring the servers in house.... :)

I've seen your threads over on the GenCon forums and watched them with interest. It really does make you wonder how event registration will go......

Yeah...I've already formed an opinion on how the event registration will go (and that was before the problems with badge/hotel registration...that has only cemented my belief).
:\

It's disappointing, to say the least.

I have kind of a one-off question. Is there any incentive for running events at Gen Con? I mean, official events, that I would register on their site - events that would show up in the program book.

I'm also not entirely clear on the process, either. I understand that I fill out the form, and people can sign up for it. All games also cost some amount of money, and then when people show up, they all want to hand me these little tickets. What do I do with those? Do I get a discount on my badge if I run events? I was thinking about registering a couple of different events, but thought I could just as easily post sign-ups here to attrack an ENworld-only group, but if there was some sort of incentive to doing it legitimately, then I might do that.

If you run enough events, I think you can get reimbursed for your badge, or even housing.

Now, is that enough? Depends. For me? No. I DM alot. I wouldn't mind DMing 1 or 2 games for fellow ENWorlders, but beyond that, I'm there to play.

In 2003, I put a sign-up sheet at the ENW booth, and nobody signed up. I didn't really get anything ready last year, and ended up scrapping another pickup game. However this year, I'm already ready.

EDIT: Hey! Wait a minute! We've had this conversation before!!!! http://www.enworld.org/showthread.php?t=79479

So I get back to the states after almost 2 years in Europe on March 1. I will be in indy on March 4. So when's gen Con in Indy? Bastards. I have been out of the circuit for afew years, and last I heard there was only 1 GenCon a year, and that one in Lake Geneva. Can anyone fill me in on the changes? Thanks!

Aaron, if you happen to be passing through Boston let me know.

There's now a (minor) Gen Con So Cal, and a (major) Gen Con Indy. It moved from Milwaukee two years ago after we outgrew the place.

I would start here:

http://www.gencon.com/indyhome.aspx?file=indy

What isn't answered there can be answered on the GenCon forums! :)
