GEN CON Registration

Not to mention the lack of anxiety concerning housing arrangements the day registration opens.

Everybody's acting like there won't be a single room left within an hour after the gates open, but I'm not sure that the reserved block of rooms fills up as fast as everybody is acting.

I talked to the con's hotel and travel manager two days ago, and she said that only about 20 percent of the reserved room block sells out in the first day. In 2003, I bought a badge a week late and had no trouble getting a room at the Marriott.

Of course, that doesn't mean I'm not still a little nervous. It's hard to be calm surrounded by a panicking mob!

I've heard much the same - but, presumably the "most desirable" rooms are taken first, meaning that the 80% remaining are "second choice" accomodations for many.

So, keep your cool, but the annoyed are definitely not expressing their frustrations without reason. ;)

Yeah, but those 20% are probably in the connected hotels. I want one of those.

I'll be at GEN CON this year. I'll get a hotel. But the same @$#$ problems for the third year running? That is just ridiculous. Unacceptable.

Period.

Yes, she did point out that those are the quickest to go. And yes, I want to be there too. Marriott, Westin or Hyatt -- in that order.

This just posted on the registration login site:

Badge registration has been postponed until 2/15/05 12:00 PM due to some technical difficulties. We're sorry for the inconvenience.

This is stuipd. The largest gaming con of the year and they can't get their on line site ready for the 3RD @#$%$%#@@ year in row. Now I have run home again tomorrow so I can get the 20% of rooms that everyone else want. Took me three years to learn but I'm booking my room in advance next year. Frell! I'm booking the second after I check out this year. I'm off to find food and drink.

BTW: another reason to hate this date!!!!! Thanks Peter!

Update: Guess what? If you did not close your window when you try to pre reg and you got in the buying the badge part of the site: you can finsh and get your hotel room. I got my room in the hotel I want. I'm going to love the "love" they are going to get tomorrow when this hits the forums at Gen Con LLC.

Just a helpful hint...For any government employees (federal, state, US, or Canada) the Indianappolis Westin gives what works out to be about a 50% discount with a government ID at time of check in. We reserved our room a few days ago to beat the rush. I don't think the Gencon discount will win over that.

I ended up with 4th or 5th choice last year, So I got jumpy this year.

I wonder if it will be even more crowded next year with the date change.
