GenCon 2004 Memories

True Heroes was my worst con experience...

I was playing Collossus, and got knocked out in the first round of every single room[/b] (often on the first action if the other side got initiative). Just didn't seem very "Collossus-like" plus it turned the game into me standing htere, while everyne else played.

All actions were resolved by tossing magnets at a steel plate. Maybe once that could've been cool...but throughout the whole thing?

Our GM , when we ran short of time would just go "...and somehow, you guys figure it out, on to the next bit..."

the whole thing was crap

Where to start?

Running into Michael Morris aka Spoony Bard on Wednesday night and trying to figure out where the heck our badges were supposed to be. I would have liked to say "We don't need no stinkin badges", but we did...

Walking the dealer's room with Teflon Billy one day and JoeGKushner the next. Between this year and waliign with Crothian last year, the only judge I didn't walk the room with was Psion. Put that down for next year's to do list.

Playing in Buttercups game with Truth Seeker. We may have been a small party, but we can wade through sewage with the best of them. :D

Meeting so many EN Worlders! I'm so glad I made the badges, and everyone came by to pick them up. I spotted lots of people because they had them on, and got to say hello, even if only for a moment as we were running to our games (Hi FungiMuncher!)

Riding the elevator with Buttercup & TruthSeeker, only to have Jester47 get on 2 floors down. Rounded him up into our posse and dragged him to dinner.

Dinner at Bupo de whatever with a whole bunch of people. Next year, we take over the place!

Playing Pirates of the Spanish Main with Teflon Billy and Theo way past the time I should have crashed. No sleep the night before made for a difficult time keeping my eyes open, but now I must have more little pirate ships! What a great game!

Discussing the merits of brightly colored sneakers at formal events with Queen_Dopplepopolis after the ENnies.

Getting to stand on the stage with the other ENnies judges. You guys rock! I hope we all get to do it again next year!

Having people recognize me by my screen name, and giving me books. What a weird feeling. But I liked it.

True Dungeon with Stone Angel. I managed to get caught in the spider trap with the party's torch. Sorry about that! And when it was all said and done, I was the last one standing. As the pin says, I survived True Dungeon!

A night of debauchery with Teflon Billy, HellHound, Stone Angel, Hand of Evil, Tim, Leonard, and Jester47.

Poutine and beer at the Canadiana suite. Those Canadians sure know how to treat their guests!

Talking with Ken Hite about RPG awards, why they are important, and why the ENnies need to continue.

Suzi Yee's Trogdor Xmas decorations! So cool! My wife loves them!

More to come...

Greetings all! I'm back from GenCon, probably earlier than most others, since I just live a few hours away. I could have stayed until this afternoon, because there was still more to do, but I'm just worn out, and I was missing my husband & doggie.

So I thought I'd start a thread where all of us who attended could share our highlights.

First, it was great to see so many EN Worlders again. Crothian, Psion, Cthulu's Librarian, Hand of Evil, JGBrowning & Suzi Yee, Hellhound, Dextra and the charming Gelflings and the ever popular Teflon Billy are all people I had met last year, and was delighted to see again. And then there were so many new faces! It's wonderful to match faces to screen names. Only problem is that I'm so tired I can't remember everyone. If I haven't mentioned you, I mean no slight!

I ran a game for Cthulu's Librarian and Truth Seeker, who were lots of fun. I had been worried that my plot was quite transparent, but they didn't get it until the very end. I enjoyed describing their trip through the sewers, and was slightly disappointed that Cthulu's Librarian's character declined to crawl on her belly through the human waste. :p

Psion ran a T20 game for Teflon Billy, Justinian, me, Jester47 and one other fine and charming EN World member whose name I'm blanking on at the moment, and it was great fun. We spaced the captain, traded successfully and bribed our way out of a fight. We were thoroughly rotten, in other words.

In what is becoming a GenCon tradition for me, I strolled the dealer's hall with Crothian, who I think was starting to get the DTs from not posting for so long. But I swear, he never once started screaming and twitching, so perhaps the medication is working better now. ;)

I spent too much money, but got lots of cool stuff, (Conan! Midnight boxed set! Fiery Dragon counters in nifty tins!) and also got lots of swag. The WotC party on Thursday night netted Psion and me some posters, tote bags and T-Shirts, plus I got some other way cool swag for volunteering at the Ennies booth, perhaps the best of which was Black Monks of Glastonbury. Oh, and I bought this completely hysterical t-shirt that might bother Eric's Grandma, so I'll use the spoiler tag to tell you what it says. It's got a guy holding up a d20, and it says
I rolled a 20, so you bitches can suck it!
I'm eager to wear it next time I DM.

Thursday night I went to dinner with Hellhound, Psion, Crothian and Jaldean, and had a good time even though Hellhound has this odd Canadian accent.:D Friday night a bunch of us went to dinner at Buca di Beppo (spelling?), an incredible Italian restaurant that serves everything family style. Good lord was it yummy! Saturday night I went to dinner with some Nutkinland/Nothingland folks at Alcatraz, and yet another good time was had.

So here I am, back in the real world, tired and poor, but happy.
Yes, oh yes...this lady known as Buttercup, will make you walk through *bleep* before you meet the villian, she had us *bleeping* walking through stuff, that makes people's *bleeping* skin crawl.

It was quite refreshing actually:p ...

And yes, we did figure out in the end...man...what a sad womman, she was...the NPC I mean:D

ButterCup gets::cool:     , and a super (((((((((((((((((((((((HUG)))))))))))))))))))))))

Ah, yes, walking through that...that...*bleeping* place;) was the most scared adventure. We were the most cautious fellows ever. CL, it was a privilege and a pleasure to watch a mage caster go to work (trust me, he did it quite well, almost singlehandely...*thumbs up!!!!*) My e-mail, cas06june_11434@yahoo.com. see ya around.

Buttercup, no, I am not, uhm...placating to you...*looking nervous*, she is a GREAT DM, and it is first for me ever in my life, to have a Dungeon Master as a lady. The first....and aslo a special request to you ButterCup and CL, if it is possible, I would like to continue that adventure, next time I see you guys...yes CL, we still have to tell the Baron on what we found...

On behalf of the entire Fiery Dragon crew, I'd like to thank all of the ENWorlders who dropped by, and especially those who dropped by to buy stuff. We could afford to pay our hotel bill this year, which is always a welcome change! :)

We had a great con -- as always, there were FAR too many things to do, and we ended up missing quite a bit. Went to go to the Canadiana suite for some homeland love, but had a wacky adventure or two that ended up side-tracking us. Stayed out FAR too late most nights. We tried to split up into groups to better cover events, but as every player with any experience knows -- it's never a good idea to split up the party! :)

We really missed Kevin, Russ and Eric this year, and especially missed Claudio. I had a really great speech prepared for the ENnies, but alas, I was the first "victim" up to talk and thrown by the lights and attention. Completely missed my opportunity to reveal my love for Hal.

Ah, Hal. How did we manage to keep apart all these years. Believe me, it will never happen again.

Great neighbours in the Bastion Booth. Thanks for the power, guys!

I'm glad we've established a pre-con ritual with Mearls. Sets the mood and always gets us right back into the action.

Thanks for the memories everyone. If we can improve as much next year as things did this year, then GenCon 2005 will be a thing of legend.

I also had a great con, I was sadened by not having Doug there but James Bell made up for it, talk about a great snuggler.

Seeing everyone from Bastion, seeing the ENWorlders, seeing Gil Gerard last the whole con.
Sharing in the light of a Silver ENnie for Bastion Press' Torn Asunder.

Great seeing everyone and look forward to next year.

:o Um, sorry. I don't think I put my foot in my mouth too many times during the con, but that was one of 'em. Ranger Wickett can tell you about the other.
Oh, it's all good. I wasn't offended in the least. It was just kinda funny. :)
