Gencon 2009 Indy

Yet again I have every intention of going - been saying this for a few years now and haven't made it - but this year the finances are looking reasonable for a change; the only thing standing in the way is getting time off from work.

If I do make it my intention is to roll in to Indy sometime Tuesday on the way back (!) from an even longer road trip (Montreal).

I'd sure like to be able to put some faces to these names I keep seeing go by on here. :)

Once we get closer to Gencon, EN World will start up a forum for it and people will be able to begin threads with specific dates and times for particular pick up games. It'd be great to get a chance to play in games with many other EN Worlders and get to know the posters behind the posts! :)

My GenCon budget for the last couple years has run around $800. That includes about $250 for airfare and another $250 for hotel (since I share with around 3 other people). The balance I spend on food, stuff I buy (which is very little) and...um, "entertainment" with the TBR.

I'm going to GenCon. So are my friends. This will be my 2nd time. I booked a hotel room a week and a half after we left Indianpolis :P

I wasn't too active, though, since I didn't know what to expect. Hopefully I'll volunteer at the Ennies booth again and stuff like that though.

My wife and I will be going, and bringing our two daughters again. We'll be orbiting the Paizo booth like moons to a planet. Looking forward to the show.

Does Gencon still run a sort of daycare center for those with kids not interested in following the grown ups around all day?

Going. Sucks that some friends can't make it this year. (Not due to the economy, but due to vacation schedules.) I plan to run several games, including some Jade Oath games, off-book.

I had every intention of going for a third time this year, and started saving up my tips months ago. I already have more saved up than the trip cost last year...

Then I found out that the people I go with might not be able to go, and that really puts a monkey wrench in it. For a variety of reasons, the costs of me going alone are a LOT higher than going with my friends, so we'll have to wait and see.

Round trip by bus can be very inexpensive and finding roommates shouldn't present too difficult a task. You should still go.

I know this is a very common way to make the trip affordable, but honestly, I'm not comfortable sharing sleeping space with strangers, even if I did find three other ladies to stay with. It works for others, but it won't work for me.

I'll find a way. It's not definite that my friends won't be able to go, and even if they can't, I might be able to work something out.
