[GenCon] Game Bus?

A friend of mine back in KC had this idea once, and the more I think about it, the cooler I think it is.

His idea was this - charter a bus to GenCon.

We were talking about this at the NC game day. Start it somewhere like Raleigh and move it up through Richmond, over to Charlottesville and then up through Columbus and on then over to Indianapolis. Pick up gamers along the way. Everyone pays a percentage of the ride (maybe a percentage based on their total mileage driven to be fair). But, we just game and talk role-playing games all the way there.

Course, we don't have to start in Raleigh, we could do several and all converge on GenCon. If we got enough people on a single bus, it would be cheap - cheaper than gas, and you wouldn't have to drive.

Interestingly, our game club spec'd out the pricing for a chartered jet, at one point. <g> A bus hadn't occurred to me, but it is a tantalizing thought...

you know, without my wife coming with me this year, and that being a long enough drive from chicago that i may not feel like doing it (but... it isn't THAT long), i might be interested if people are coming from the north... :)

Well my input is really unimportant since I live about five minutes from the convention center but I think it is cool and I was wondering if I could get a ride?
LOL Of course there will be gaming on the bus, at first I had thought you meant like a converted RV like a party bus with music and drinks while driving around yelling at people and narrowly avoiding the law enforcement, but a D&D bus lol

Even though I live about two hours from Indy, the bus idea really sounds pretty neat. If I lived far enough away I would sign up for the bus in an instant! Keep us posted on this idea as I would love to hear more about it.

Someone MUST do this, and videotape it. It would be like the anti-Bang Bus. Or "Gamers Gone Wild. There's a fortune to be made here...

I was joking with the others at the NC game day that we could stop on the corner, pick up random people, game with them, and then dump them off a couple of miles down the street like the trash that they are. :)

A game jet, wow. That'd be awesome. Yet, uber expensive, I'm thinking.

Well, if you are going to swing through C'ville, I might as well hop on board. ;)

I think it's a great idea, and it probably wouldn't be that expensive. I was thinking about it after I dropped you off yesterday, and had one thought. Where do we put the bus driver for 4 days? If the Jets couldn't get a hotel room in Indy last year, how the heck is our poor bus driver going to get one?

I'm not exactly sure how that works exactly, either. And the fact that we keep the guy for basically 5 solid days means we'd probably have to foot his pay during that time as well. Alternatively, we could Get one driver on the way there, leave us there, and then acquire another driver for the trip back home. I'm sure Indy has a bus terminal. In college, we'd get chartered buses to go to away games and they would come to the college to pick us up, so I'm certain that that's an option. I'll see what I can find on Greyhound's site.
