GenCon real-time hotel registration now active!

The rooms that are left? :) Last I heard, there's nothing available within 12 blocks. Yowsa!

I think my 4-person room is $138 per night. You can get much less expensive, though, if you don't mind staying at the dorms and taking the shuttlebus back and forth.

EDIT - this was me, not KidCthulhu. Stupid log-in!

Some rooms available

There should be some suites at the Marriot Residence Inn. It's on Plankington, a couple of blocks away from the convention hall. It's not on WOTC's Passkey registration form, you have to call them directly. 414-224-7890. They're a bit expensive but have very nice suites.

We had reservations with them ahead of time, just in case we didn't get anything closer.

I was hoping to get to GenCon this year.

I started saying $500 a month at the start of last year - I figured that would give me around $10,000 to take with me.

And then I was made redundant, as the business I worked for was shut down - not due to lack of money or anything, just because the owning company decided that this business was no longer in the scope of its core business.

Anyway, I've been unemployed for three months now. So, I can't afford to book six month early to go to Gencon even if I can afford it by the time it happens :(

I was really hoping to go to Gencon again while it was in Milwaukee. (I went in '97).

Wow... the hotels went fast...

How did the hotels sell out so fast? Did they do exhibitors first? I never got any notice from WOTC that registration had opened.

There was nothing left within a mile of the convention center when I registered. I ended up reserving one hotel for Wednesday night and another for the other three nights so I could stay within easy walking distance.

Well concidering my friends and I yet have to come together and decide if we are going I have a question. Is it possible to find rooms and what not at close to the last minute?

It is possible as long as you don't mind staying out by the airport or on the north or west sides of Milwaukee. You'll have at least a 15 - 20 minute drive to the convention center, though.

The first year my fiancee and I went, we decided to go sometime around April... most of the hotels were already full, but we found a little bed & breakfast that was a few miles down the road. The one we stayed at was the Manderley, but there are probably others.

Good luck!

I got the Hilton!!! Wo0t!!!

Of course, not without some "interesting" fun. My computer crashed just as my confirmation page was loading, and I never get an email with my reservation info.

So I called the hotel.

And they had no idea who I was. My name was nowhere in their system.

But, they gave me the number for the housing service, and they had my info in the system and re-sent the confirmation email.

*whew!*

Mike...

See you at the Hilton!

Also as an FYI: When I spoke with Gen Con Housing this morning they told me they had difficulties yesterday with emailing confirmations. If you have not received a confirmation email, please contact them and they will resend the confirmation email.

Later!

Art, what email address or phone number do you have for them? I never got a confirmation email, either, although I did get confirmation numbers from the hotel site.
