[GenCon] Roadtripping?

Never to early to start burning those "I am going to Gen Con" mix CD's.

EXACTLY! :D

Ok, so far we have some Cake, Tom Petty, Allmand Bros. and some LOTR - all sounding great! :) Anybody got any more? :) Personally, being a BIG fan of 70's Funk/Rock, pretty much any Grand Funk Railroad floats my boat, especially songs like Time Machine and Mr. Limosense Driver are excellent driving songs...

More to come... :)

We are doing an 18 hour drive to get to GenCon.

I burn CDs of Goa Trance music (Hallucinogen, Paul Oakenfold)

For a good example of what I'm talking about - look for the track Spiritual Antiseptic by Hallucinogen.

I'm also burning a few CDs of OLD punk rock.

Dead Kennedys: Police Truck, California Uber Alles, Chemical Warfare, Viva Las Vegas, Government Flu, Terminal Preppie, Buzzbomb, Religious Vomit, Dog Bite.

Circle Jerks: Live fast, die young, Just like me / put a little love in your heart, When the **** hits the fan, Coup d'Etat, Beat me senseless, Fortunate Son

Exploited: Dogs of War, Punks not dead, Dead cities

Sex Pistols: just mixing in most of the tracks from Never Mind the Bollocks.

Dead Boys: Sonic Reducer

and more... Can't forget the Cramps, the Ramones, etc...

Mmmmm... Punk Rawk.

Mmm, I like it heavy. I like the funky stuff mentioned above and I LOVE Cake (wow, yet another thing we have in common, Kajamba Lion :)), but for long road trips I usually like to keep it heavy...

Rush is about the softest on my list, I will also be bringing: Disturbed, Metallica, System of a Down, Pantera, Mr. Bungle.

In case I need a break from that and want to go lighter for a bit, I'll bring: Cake, Beck, the Pixies and Frank Black, Phish, Pink Floyd...

Everybody loves cake. It's fluffy and delicious. Mmmmmm.....cake.....

I was thinking of flying to GenCon, but considering how many pounds of books I plan on leaving with, a roadtrip might be the better idea. Of course, unless I have a 12-14 hour CD, there's not much point in me burning a mix, might as well just bring a binder's worth.

Get Funkadelic's Hard Core Jollies. Absolutely fabulous funk album.

And Sniktch, check out some old Iron Maiden if you haven't already. Number of the Beast... amazing guitar.

PS

If you've never heard any taiko music (that's Japanese drumming, with the big BIG BIG drums), then pick up Ibuki by Kodo. Excellent album to drive to.

If you're more into dance, then you could pick up Sai-so, which is labeled as a Kodo album, but is actually an album of dance remixes using riffs from Ibuki.

Both LotR soundtracks.

The Original Broadway cast album of Sweeney Todd. You can keep track of how many people get murdered by listening to the bodies dropping through the floor. ;) But then again, I love singing in the car to pass the time, and Sweenwey's baritone part is right smack in my vocal range.

I always end up bringing more CDs than I need for road trips. I like listening to the radio and trying to get the feel of the area I'm driving through that way. Harder to do in these days of mega-conglomerate corporations running radio, but still possible.

Iron Maiden? EXCELLENT! plays air guitar.

I carry some childhood trauma associated with Iron Maiden, though (my grade school bus driver looked EXACTLY like Eddie - no lie  - poor woman :D)

I can't list all the artists or CDs in my collection, though - that would take up an entire thread of its own ;) But thanks, Storminator, Iron Maiden is a good call. I think I'll also add Ozzy to the list while I'm at it.
