Same with the regular paladin. Literally, he must "help those in need and punish those who harm or threaten innocents". You didn´t help every beggar you found in that city come out of poverty? Say goodbye to your powers, holy boy.

It doesn't say all opportunities for the normal Paladin, thank Hyrag! :D (but it does say that for PoS)

It´s implied that he must do it at all opportunities, the same that the line about the PoS can be interpreted in other ways than he must continously and mindlessly kill everything he finds, or it becomes quickly absurd ("Why? I´m your cohort!" "Sorry, it´s in the class features")

It is not implied that the Paladin must do it always, but it is explicitly stated that the PoS must do it at all times in very clear terms (the terms I wrote above are directly quoted). Yes, it's absurd. I do not argue that. It is why I despise the class ;)

No he must not. It´s in the code of conduct, put paladins lose their powers when they grossly violate the code. Losing an opportunity to slaughter a room full of drunken, sleeping clerics of Hyrag would be, but not to start killing everyone in the red dragon inn knowing too well that he´ll be killed.

He has to try--if he loses, it's okay. He can respect their power over him.

*sigh* ok, you win the Internet battle. May it be that you don´t like your interpretation of the class and aren´t willing to change it? Frankly, it´s not the first time.

I believe someone at WoTC wrote an article about that problem as well.

There was discussion about fixing it, and realy, it's only a flavor fix. It's in the Paladin thread.

That is the great thing about LEW. We as a community can say this part of this class is absurd so we can reword it for the common sense factor and make it usable. This could be an interesting roleplay challenge to come up with motivations for a PoS to coexist alongside good guys if it helps his goals be reached - obviously unknown to the good guys.

However I would like to see a 1st level PoS walk into the RDI and wreak havoc slaying everyone. It would likely be a very short visit.
