If you want to argue that by standards outside of the game, Anton's code itself is the source of evil, I won't argue with you. Inside the game, I think the furthest you can go is Lawful with Evil Tendencies.

I am indeed saying it is lawful with evil tendencies inside the game. Much as Chaotic Neutral is not an excuse to do evil and say it was random, Lawful Neutral is not justifiable to follow a personal code that proscribes evil. Fortunately, in this case, the code is not evil but only has evil tendencies. As I said many times, I think that Anton was played correctly as a Lawful Neutral character who committed an Evil act. I'm just saying that the *act* was Evil. Clearly Anton in character doesn't see it as wrong, as it follows his code. This is true for many characters, even some with an Evil alignment. But the NPCs don't seem to agree there, and do you blame them?

I think that and what followed summed it up nicely.

And Patlin, I concur with your assessment of what the PCs went through. But the "I don't like Mondays" defense only worked once, the "twinkie" defense only worked once, the "I did it to impress Jodie Foster" defense only worked once... :D

I think it was KO2 who mentioned the 'bad day' defense

Eh, you're right. :o Apologies to both KO2 and Patlin.

Sometime I'd like to hear Persephone use the "bad hair day" defense, but I guess she's just too nice. ;)

Is she a PC that went on a killing spree?

And I quoted SRD text to the contrary. :p I don't think it was necessariliy an evil act--it could have been construed as evil, it could have been construed as neutral, and it could have been construed as good.

Of course not, the NPCs use your logic. :p

and it could have been construed as good.

I'll buy that the act of murder could have been construed as Neutral but not Good

Of course not, the NPCs use your logic.

I would argue the reverse--I am putting forth the NPCs' logic. I use different logic for different characters, and none of them really has much bearing on the logic I would use in real life. Trust me, unlike Lasair, I wouldn't check to make sure the lady of the house wanted me to drink the water that came with the complimentary breakfast :D

And the messenger's "I'm just a jerk for today but a saint the rest of the week"?

El Jefe argued it, not me. He mentions a framework for such an arguement, and it has some merit, though you (and I) may disagree with the outcome of such logic. My point is that the act isn't clearly Evil.

No, just the closest thing we have to a Valley Girl PC.

As far as I can tell, she doesn't need an excuse for anything, I just want to hear her say that she's having a bad hair day!
