Has there ever been a determination on what the coins of the realm are called? Do we just call them gold or silver pieces or do they have actual names, like crowns or shillings or the like?

From one of El Jefe's thread summaries (General Part II, although I'm not sure where in that thread)
El Jefe said:
In the region near Orussus, platinum coins are called Dragons, gold coins Crowns, silver coins Shields, and copper coins Pennies.

That said, many characters have also been heard calling them by such creative nicknames as "gold pieces", etc.

That would be from a post of Creamsteak's near the beginning of that thread that goes like this:

"I think it will be regional. For now, I'm going to say that the Red Dragon's Region (to be named as soon as I feel inspired) will use Dragons for Platinum pieces, then Crowns (Gold), Shields (Silver), and Pennies (Copper)."

That was before Orussus was named.

I've also seen gold pieces called "Ennies", but I think that's a slang term, like "bucks" for dollars. ;)

NPC them as needed, then find convienent excuses to drop them here or there. I would try not to have them killed, and it would be polite if you could drop them in places where they could return if the player returns. But you're under no obligation to be so kind.
What everyone said on the matter. I have a history of being patient with both players and DMs in my games.
Of course, a few times, it is not feasable to drop a character - my remaining players in Dance of Souls would kill me if I took Gur out of the picture, as he is the only healer available.(!!)

Yeah, I'll just deal with it and adjust the story a bit. Mines generaly open ended, but one of the more fun scenerios involved one of the MIA players (Enough where I still need him for a bit, NPCing wouldn't work quite right), but I can coninue on. Fortunately, it's open enough that I can probably get around it, but it is a bit frustrating.

Should it become desirable, we could always recruit a replacement. Perhaps with more subtlety than was portrayed in "The Gamers" by the Dead Gentlemen...

What do you mean. They roleplayed the encounter appropriately. :)

At this point of the adventure, unless you make any unexpected detours and keep your employers waiting, I see neither need nor opportunity. That cleric you knocked out certainly won't join you. ;)
