I know of at least two other cases on the 'playing the game' board where a player took over as DM after the initial DM disapeared. Sounds like RA did the right thing. It is often difficult to motivate oneself to read a long thread in order to take it over. Often, even after you read it, you still don't know what to do with it. Whereas a player who's been with it all along is more likely to have developed a theory or two. We shouldn't assume this would be the last occurance of this situation.

Each situation might still be different, depending upon, among other things, how long the player ends up running the adventure as DM. I'm happy to delegate the decision to the judge who takes over as judge for that particular adventure, who can work it out with the player/DM.

Erekose, are you still my judge for L2? It's done now.
That could be a good idea Manzanita, thanks for the thoughts.

However, I do think that we don't have to worry about this happening in LEW like it does in Playing the Game because we have an extra level of protection in the Judges--the GM and the Judge must both fail for a game to die or need a player to take over to save it.

In my tabletop group, whe you are not there, you have an immunity to death, but generally, teh DM try to find a convincing reason why the missing character is not with the group. But as it doesn't always work, so sometimes, the PC NPCed follow teh group, try to be as much in teh background as possible and the master try to not kill him (exception, total character wipe out). I think I've lost enough character like that in game because of lot's of bad luck and a few bad decision, having my character get killed when I'm not there would have been too much. Come on! I know how to kill myself, I don't need teh master help :p

This is basically what I was trying to get across. I've had those experiences too.

Normal encounter XP is easy to calculate, since he'll be giving it to others. RA gives out RP awards as well, and he obviously can't give himself thouse. I think, that since his PC is helping with the challenges, he should get credit for them,

Using the suggested map for Orussus and the Wiki as a reference, I put together a kinda cartoony map of Orussus in Photoshop tonight. I've still got all the layers, so everything is easily movable, in case somebody's really dissatisfied with the location of something. But I think it's high time we had a real map for LEW's home city.

A Proposed Map

Rilithorne's Tower is the gray circle south of the harbor. The buildings in the High District and on Livingston are guard towers and a prison. In Red Dragon Place, the red building is the RDI, the blue building is Edwyd's Victuals, and the NE building is Drewer's. The massive structure is the arena.

I would suggest you to take a look at the rough map I had drwan here. It isn,t really detail, but after I have read everything about Orussus and discuss about the geopgraphy of Orussus with other people, I had arrive to that result.

The most obvious difference between our maps is the river going through the center. It should be easy to add a river to my map. Our locations are pretty far off, too. Interesting that we could both have such different interpretations based on the same information. I tried to make sure that everything in the Wiki was addressed, but I didn't put in the High Court or the Winged Flute Inn.

The location of Merchant's Avenue, such a major Orussian road, is troubling. Personally, I think my location makes more sense: it goes through the center of the city and passes right by the harbor. I also think the High District makes sense near the water: Not only is waterfront property inherently more valuable, it gives a nice, big, very physical separation between the rich and the poor, the latter being located on the other side of the harbor behind the docks.

It's all up to debate and very malleable, though. I wish we could have El Jefe's comments, he seemed very knowledgeable of the city.

Velmont, unless you think my map needs a complete redraw, maybe you could use Paint to draw in a river where you think it should go and use copy-paste to relocate the things that you don't like? Even the roads are easily changeable.

I'll take a look at it when I'll have time. I had gathered all the information about Orussus to stick as much as possible to what had been establish and I had asked many question about the city when I had doubt. I'll try to find back the discussion I had and if I do changes, I'll explain it and see what people here think of it. All I wnat, it is to have a consistant city and also try to keep what as been establish in many different adventures.

Yup, sorry I had seen that. Meant to drop in and approve things. Did that now. Thanks again for helping me pick up one of the two games. I think I would've started fading had I tried to pick them both up at the time. Sorry that the players seemed to have fallen away after the DM left.
