Oh. I misunderstood. I thought you were merely saying that the canonical material *does not in fact* have any classes with some but not all perform skills, not that they were described in terms that *could not* apply to any such classes.
Ah yes, no worries. Yeah, I did mean the latter there.

All I know is that The Old-Fashioned Way at least mentioned Sairundan. (Thanks to El Jefe's Recomp thread.) Other than that, I have no idea.

Are there any adventures that have been run in Sairundan? I want to read up more on it :)

Not that I'm aware of, and I've watched a lot of LEW. So far it's just appeared in several character backgrounds.

Well, hopefully that will change at some point. It's a rich area and I'd love my newest character to go back there at some point.

Could I revive this question of Solange?

What's the starting money for a human paragon? Should I use Rogue? That seems closest.

So far, we've had only two suggestions -- Rae ArdGaoth's idea to use the most similar base class, and my idea to use the class which the character will (mostly) advance in subsequently.

One problem with Rae's suggestion: we still have to determine which class that is. It's easy for most paragon classes -- the favoured class for that race -- but not for human or half-elf. Rae suggests either Rogue (200 GP) or Bard (160 GP), both of which make sense, although of the two I think I'd prefer Rogue, as the more generic skills-oriented class.

One problem with mine: What if the player isn't sure about the character's future career? It's not exactly determined, and nobody is bound to follow their initial plan. It's not a big problem for the case at hand -- a build clearly aimed at a Dervish of Sairundan, and therefore likely to be a fighter while getting to PrC qualifying level -- but rules and policies should be established on more general principles.

We have at least two other PCs who have started as paragons. I wonder where they go their starting gold amounts.

I like Rae's suggestion. That works for most Paragons, though perhaps it should be spelled out. Rogue gold for humans and half-elves sounds fine by me.

Hmmm... that got me searching through the character thread. Alden (human paragon) seems to have started with 160 GP (no treasure awards yet, so it's easy to say). I have no idea where that came from. Zurd is even more mysterious. I logged his original character sheet at the start of Exploring the Hase-Suna Complex (his first adventure) and now find... he started with 217 point something GP. Umm, whatever principle he (or the character judges at the time) used, I think someone miscalculated.

I also looked over the text on d20srd.org. It is explicitly noted that human paragons are most like rogues and bards in abilities, and that half-elf paragons frequently multiclass as either rogues or rangers. Based on that, I think it makes some sense to treat both as rogue variants, and so use 200 GP for the starting gold. And with the exception of me, that seems to be the preferred approach of everyone who's weighed in on this question so far.
