General Discussion

The players in Scourge of Howling Horde are having to deal with several traps from the source material with a trap disarmer. I did not alter the material just because they don't have a rogue.

I've been toying with character ideas and have a couple of questions - it seems like I remember discussing both of these, but I can't find those discussions or their results now.

In the case of characters starting at higher than first level, do they have to shop at the Dunn Wright, and roll for items? This is not a big deal as they can commission items they can't find out-right, just wondering so I'll know how to play it.

Also, did we ever reach a consensus about price limits for the Pearl?

Finally, one of my strong contenders is a Cleric with the Leadership domain. Nobility and Leadership both grant the Leadership feat - which is not approved for LPF - at 8th level. Did we come up with something to replace that benefit? If not, I'll start a discussion thread to get the ball rolling on it.

I vaguely remember that we decided characters could freely purchase items with their starting monies regardless of level.

Price limits for the Pearl were mentioned but the discussion didn't progress that I remember. And I swear I thought we came up with a substitution for Leadership but I can neither find nor remember what it was.

Just an FYI to GMs and those who wish to be in the know... Saranna Surefoot has been retired. I did not enjoy playing the rogue at all and did not want to continue. Thank you.

Okay. Please update her adventure log section with the final details of A Spiked Drink, so if I ever backtrack while reviewing the new character, I won't have a "erm, umm" moment.
Thanks.

It might have worked better in an actual campaign where there is a party that more or less has assigned rolls and where the GM can customize the game for his group... and not a living game where you can be partnered up with any other type of character.

Not sure what it was exactly, but not being able to get into a flank to take advantage of sneak attack sucked. Especially for a small character where your sneak attack damage is bigger than your weapon damage.

It seems most of my skills were duplicated by other characters. Sure I had some moments, but I did not enjoy playing her, and I am sure it showed to the others I played with in my last adventure.

Already done. Already tagged for retirement as well earlier in the week. Saranna made 4th level and I am not going to level the character. If I make a replacement character the character will be at minimum xp for 4th level and 6000 gp in wealth.

Rogues do tend to be more difficult to play, especially in an environment like this. It is a significant challenge to find a niche for them that others can't fill, and in combat, they rely heavily on well coordinated tactics. It's to a point where the concept of the rogue is still alive and well, but the mechanical class has serious problems, even with the revamp PF did.

I love my rogue. I find the character a blast to play though that may be more the result of the great characters he's adventured with and the excellent DMs that have run the adventures he's been in.

He has his down sides: his hp disappear astonishingly fast, he's ended up prone at least once in nearly every adventure he's been in, difficult terrain can shut him down, and I don't feel that I can afford to take the hit to his attack modifiers caused by Two-Weapon Fighting (though that may be the result of the two levels of bard that I took to give him a little more flexibility/specialization). A consistent flanking buddy, one that would take Teamwork feats, would help his combat capability considerably but that's not really a sure thing in a living world like this one.

He's pretty much a skillmonkey/face with a dollop of fair to decent combat skills as a back-up. It works well in urban areas and in places where his movement isn't hindered, not so well in dungeons and cramped quarters. He's adventured a lot with a particular fighter and bard and both of those classes can do what my rogue does but better except for maneuverability and stealth and dealing with traps.

I do worry that as he advances in level his maneuverability will be severely impacted as the DCs for Acrobatics advance past his ability to keep up his skill bonus. I guess I'll find out eventually.
