General Discussion

Thanks! Actually, I was going to leave the feud open for the DMs. ;)

I was following the settlement's rules from the srd but eventually found it more complex than how it was in 3.5 and just went ahead and described it on my terms.

Other basic details I might add to the wiki:

Region: A day east of Tritower
Population: 196
Demographics: Humans, Half-Elves, Elves
Alignment: Neutral Good
Government: Council
Economy: Leather/Furs and Lumber
Leader: Baron

You're right, Mowgli, we do have an entire world to fill up. And on that scale adding one small village really doesn't make a whole lot of difference. But for me, some of the most interesting and entertaining bits of creation come from people taking something that someone else has created and adding just a bit more to it. For example, the Gabbiano ring led to Carnemorto & Umberto Gabbiano to Finia and Commander Parsons and all the connections Parsons has had through various adventures. It wouldn't have been the same if I had just created the Gabbiano family whole cloth from the beginning.

And that's how I see this village. Yes, it's created as part of soulnova's character backgrounds but it could very well lead to something more. A detailed list of businesses doesn't provide me any inspiration; that's what I meant by detail for the sake of detail.

I can definitely see what you're saying, and I do some of my most creative work (what little creative work I do) when bouncing ideas off others or working off just such a "springboard." I guess from my perspective I just don't see the validity of telling the original creator (of a place, NPC, or whatever) that they have to set the details aside and leave them for others to create or fill in.

(Just to be clear, I know that's not exactly what you said - you never said you would withhold approval or any other such thing, and are expressing a perfectly valid opinion. I'm just having a hard time figuring out a better way to present my counter-point. NOT trying to be abrasive ;)).

Let's try this:

I'd rather see us keep our role to making sure that the details that ARE presented fit with the world we're creating, rather than saying how many details people can put into their original creations.

Hmmm . . . that's not really much better :(.

I'm not getting it right, but for some reason it feels important enough to me that I don't want to just say nothing, so I'll let the above stand for now and see where it goes.

I think I understand what you're wanting to get across. I'll try to restrain my impulse to nit-pick the little stuff. This is great stuff we're getting and I don't want to discourage that sort of creative input.

I like the business list too. "The town boasts" leaves it quite open for another GM to add a candle maker, baker or undertaker for their needs. Those are nothing to boast about, but essential needs businesses that are quietly there if one needs them. Then again, the adventure might be that a new merchant is moving into town, and might be meeting resistance.

Of course, with all those girls there, they would need five cobblers (shoe makers) in town. :p

Very good job Soulnova.

As to XP, just how far do we have to fling it before we are able to give more to the same person? I tried as well for her, and was blocked. I have been blocked trying to XP just about anybody who has been on the board more than a week.

[sblock=OOC]You need to give out XP to 29 different people before you can give out another to the someone you just XP'ed.[/sblock]
