General star wars talk/discussion/complaining

I’ve been thinking about this, and I don’t think it is, it actually tells you what it is about - Grogu transitioning to main character. It’s also why it needed to be a movie - making him able to do stuff is expensive.
There’s no real sense of the plot
I think they are trying to avoid the major spoiler that Weaver’s character is the main villain (and Rotta is a good guy). When someone says it’s not about revenge you can be sure it’s about revenge.
they’ve brought back the Razor Crest
It was established in the TV series that he was emotionally attached to that model of classic starship and was looking for one the same. Given time and credits it would be surprising if he didn’t find one.

But kids these days just aren’t interested in Star Wars, it’s the stuff grandad likes. It’s always going to be a hard sell.

Meh. That doesn’t make it any better of a name. I mean, “Grogu” isn’t the greatest name, either, and the writers know it. (Remember how they had Peli comment that she wasn’t going to call him that?)

Perhaps! But that would just be more “New Republic is doomed from the start” crap.

Yes, I remember. But the show also did a good job showing him “leveling up” - he upgraded his armor, upgraded his weapons, and upgraded his spaceship. Yeah, I guess if he’s gotten back into bounty hunting, he needs a cargo ship, but still … this feels like a downgrade rather than another upgrade.

But, look, I’m prepared to have my mind changed by the movie itself. I might end up thinking it’s the best Star Wars movie since Rogue One! You never know!

I just hope it’s better than Mando S3 and Ahsoka S1 (and the Book of Boba Fett).

We know that to be the case. And Star Wars has always been political.

We don't know how he has been dragged back into bounty hunting. Aging gunslinger dragged out of retirement for one last job is a well established western trope. And a retired guy rarely has the latest gear. The Razorcrest is more like being wealthy enough to own a classic sportscar. The paint job is probably original stylings. He never had the money to have the previous Razorcrest resprayed. Of course it likely is upgraded under the hood.

Note that Boba Fett did the same thing - Jango Fett's Firespray was destroyed (TCW), the one Boba has is a different ship but the same model.

My expectations are about Solo level.

If its fun its a win. Generally I liked Solo.

I doubt it will be bad as such.

I know it will never happen for a lot of reasons, but I would totally support a complete reboot from first principles. Give us The Star Wars and go from there.

The pacing was off in Solo, it would have been better as a TV series, but it was enjoyable enough. I think I will enjoy this one more. But I think it will fail at the cinema. It needs to attract kids to get a large audience, and the only recent time Star Wars has been good has been when it is aimed at adults (including Maul in that).

Right film right time. It was a prime example of it's better to be lucky than good. Not going to happen again.

It would be nice to have another family-friendly sci fi action franchise though. Grown ups at least have the Dune franchise, poor kids are stuck with Mario Galaxy.

Far be it from me to be the millionth person to tell Disney what to make, but I think the richest vein in the Star Wars universe is significantly before or after the century or so covered by the films (which contains the vast majority of material). The Acolyte is IIRC the only one I can think of that really went there and I think the weaknesses there were in the writing, not the setting. Just some great High Republic adventures or stories, space opera and personal dramas, with zero mentions of the Empire, the Skywalkers, or Darth Anybody.
