General video game discussion

Veilguard has started stuttering when I play it now. Worked great yesterday! I’ve tried all sorts of things with no success so far.

I had the same problem with Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey, but only long after I’d finished the main story. I think it was a DirectX update that messed up that game. (I’ve since uninstalled it for space reasons.)

I did update my GPU drivers. Maybe that’s what did it.

I’m back on the Baldur’s Gate 3 train - never did a Dark Urge run so giving it a shot now, using a character inspired by my first BG1 character. Had forgotten how good the game is, and yet how many little things irritate the hell out of me. Still worth putting up with, though.

I'm currently playing as Shadowheart, reskinned as a paladin. In the goblin camp at the moment, currently about to kick things off with Halsin's rescue, have been kind-of putting it off as that's going to be a lot of big fights.

I did a clean install of the latest Nvidia drivers and fingers crossed that seems to have fixed it.

As an aside, I am currently in the Atlantis-like undersea elven ruin-turned-Venatori prison. This is an awesome environment. I love it! Would make for a badass D&D dungeon.

(One thing I don't like about this game is the interaction between potions and saves - that is, even though you can save the game at any time, when you reload, it doesn't start you right there where you saved. Sometimes it takes you back to some earlier spot and then you have to redo a fight you previously won, but this time you have no potions left, so the fight is harder than it was the first time.)

I’ve never tried any of the origin characters, Dark Urge aside. I’m so used to making my own I find it difficult to play with pre-designed ones. Maybe next time…

The fights can be kept separate and manageable, as long as you don’t screw anything up. I always screw something up.

They can be pretty rewarding. I've played most of the way through as Lae'zel (got bogged down somewhere in the last act, which seems to be the fate of half of my playthroughs) and that was very satisfying.

Yeah, same. I'm basically just debating going the quiet route of isolating some of the bosses and letting Halsin sneak home versus bringing him with me and going in all guns blazing

I thought I'd fixed the stuttering by doing the clean driver install, but that seemed to be only a temporary fix. Still can't figure out what's causing it. Doesn't seem to be an overheating issue.

I'm powering through it anyway. I've just got two companions left to recruit.

I love how most of the characters take their armor off and let their hair down, but the dwarves really get comfy. Varric's wearing plaid pyjama pants and Harding's rocking some cozy slippers.

You do get sone unique dialog choices and other bits and pieces.
Dark Urge still the best followed by Wyll imho.
