Generation X

First Post
I used to keep up with this series in the early days (the first 25 issues or so), then I kind of lost interest in comics for a while. I recently started getting back into them, and much to my disappointment found out that GenX had been canceled at some point. Further research told me that there had been some fairly tumultuous events leading to the team's disbanding.

In particular, I was saddened to hear that Synch had been killed in an explosion. Can anyone provide further information on that, or at least tell me what issue it happened in?

Secondly, there seems to have been some MAJOR weirdness regarding M, Emplate, and Penance. Can someone please clear up what exactly was revealed as the truth?

Finally, where are all the members of GenX now? I'm particularly interested in Jubilee, Skin, Husk, and Chamber. I know Chamber is a member of the X-Men now, but how did that happen? Also, are any of them currently featured in monthly titles?

Go ye to The Unofficial Handbook to the Marvel Universe and grow fat with knowledge...

Jubilee & M & Husk were last seen as members of Banshee's X-Corps, a quasi-paramilitary security force working in Europe (it fell apart... badly). Don't think any of the fomrer Gen-Xer's are in any regular titles at the moment.

As for Emplate, M, and Penance.... Emplate is Marius St. Croix, the brother of Monet, Nicole, and Claudette St. Croix. Nicole & Claudette are twins.

Monet refused to go with Marius in his quest for dominance, and was transformed into Penance (a mute with diamond-like skin & hair). Marius took her to another dimension, feeding on her for years. Penance/Monet was eventually rescued by Gateway.

Meanwhile, the distraught Nicole & Claudette, both 8 years old, merged their bodies into a 16-year old copy of Monet. As "Monet," the twins were taken captive by the Phalanx on the evening they arrived at Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters. After their rescue, they spent months oblivious to the world around them, but eventually emerged from their fugue-lie state, far more educated & wise than before -- they had absorbed knowledge & skills fro those around them.

"Monet" slowly settled into events at the school, showing genius-level skills ina number of areas. She also consistently showed a level of refinement & manners that far exceeded the other students, save in areas of tact. "M" entered trances whenever she was under stress or needed extreme concentration. In this state, she exhibited odd behavior, and Hank "Beast" McCoy thought she might be autisitc, but she insisted she was fine.

Until Operation: Zero Tolerance, when "Monet" split back into Nicole & Claudette St. Croix.

Later, when Marius returned and merged with the rejoined "Monet" to form M-Plate, the twins discovered the fate of their sister Monet. After they were released from the M-Plate amalgam, they joined together once more, then merged with Penance/Monet, forcing the real Monet out of that body and taking her/their place there.

Now, M is truly Monet, and Penance is the joined Claudette/Nicole. As far as I know.

Wow, that's the most ridiculously complicated story I've ever heard of in a Marvel comic (well, except for maybe the whole Spider-Man clone thing, but I think we'd all just rather forget about that). Here's a further question: which of the current X-titles is Chamber usually in?

last time I saw him was in Uncanny X-Men, dating some english supermodel chick (she was doing it largely as a publicity thing, I believe).

and, yes, the Emplate/M/Penance thing was horribly convoluted, even for Marvel...
