Gestalt characters, prestige classes, and rabid munchkinism

First Post
So, I'm playing a gestalt rogue/sorceror. I'd like to take the Human Paragon prestige class.

I didn't find anything in the rules about this - can I take the first level of Human Paragon as replacing the rogue, then the next two replacing the Sorceror class? This seems incredibly tweakish to me, granting continual spellcasting progression, d8 hit dice for 3 levels, only a loss of 4 skill points, etc.

Any thoughts?

No real rules against it. Not too tweakish, though, since you're still going to be loosing out on the two levels of rogue abilities when you replace them with human levels.

I don't see any reason not to. It seems weird, yes, but since you pick two classes for each level, it's okay.

That does seem tweakish, so it should fit perfectly in a Gestalt game. ;)

Yeah, I'm a big fan of the Department of Redundancy Department - but even I have my limits. Oh heck, now I'm going to go sell this to my DM.

Shouldn't your DM be specifying to you which options from UA are available, rather than the other way round?

Yep, and the campaign is a gestalt campaign. I just have no idea how he's going to react to this particular piece of munchkinism.

Wow. I just told Hong that I was worried about munchkinism. I think, that's like, ironic, and stuff. :D

I do not see why not. You are losing a huge number of skill points by not taking Rogue at first level. You are still losing skill points if you pull that trick later.

Gestalt characters are not intended to be balanced by our normal standard of things. You are paying a price such as it is.

Besides, the powergamer in me would have been tempted to go for Barbarian/Sorceror -- just wait until you see him buff, Polymorph, then Rage...

Ridley, for your barbarian/Sorceror combination ... eventually, go for Rage Mage. Retain the ability to cast spells while in a rage! whee! Hehehe.

So, Barbarian/Sorceror for ... oh ... 6 levels. Then alternate between Rage Mage/Sorceror and Rage Mage/Barbarian (the RM/B levels give you +1 level of spellcasting anyway, and the RM/S levels give you improved rage abilities too) for 10 levels, then back to Barbarian/Sorceror for 4 more levels.

Eventually, at the Gestalt equivalent of Barbarian(15)/Sorceror(15)/Rage Mage(10) ... you cast as a 20th level sorceror still, Rage 6 times per day, Spell-rage 3 times per day (durign which you can still cast spells), have tireless rage, and ... well ... a HOST of other abilities.

Rage Mage is in CW, on pp72-73. Give it a look! ^_^
