Getting a Grip on Perspective

Jürgen Hubert

First Post
I'm learning how to do digital art - to be specific, bitmap art with a combination of GIMP and a graphics tablet.

But I plan to have lots and lots of architecture in my art, and getting the perspective right for those is a drag. So I was wondering: Can you recommend me any Open Source 3D graphics program out there that will help me get the perspective right?

To clarify: I do not need anything that renders minute details with photorealistic light effects and whatnot. All I want to do is create the basic shapes of the buildings, generate a view with a realistic perspective with these basic shapes, and then import it into GIMP and paint over it.

Can anyone help me out?

Someone else also recommended Blender to me. Does anyone have any experience with it?

One of my (RL) friends has alot of expierence with it. Its as powerful as the big names (Maya and Lightwave) but is very difficult to learn how to use.
