D&D 4E Getting Closer To Being Sucked In To 4E

Not only did I pre-order the slipcase version, I also applied for and received the Amazon credit card which gave me an additional 30 bucks off. That's a deal I couldn't pass up. Now I just have to tell my wife we have another credit card. :)

Yep, that's what I did when 3.5 came out. I was able to upgrade for almost nothing.

I'll add my voice to the "Pre-order" crowd. In fact, I'm going to show this thread to one of my players. (The impulsive one with lots of disposable income, of course. :] )

If it sounds like a good deal to you and money isn't too tight, I would go ahead and buy them. If nothing else, you'll have something to read, have a more informed opinion as you decide longer term on switching editions and you might be able to find inspiration from the 4e books to apply to your 3.5e games. I'm pre-ordering the 4e books, although I don't think I'll be running a 4e game until 2009. While I like what I've seen about 4e, I've too many 3.5e campaigns to work through first. And unless it's *incredibly* easy to create opponents on the fly, I'm too lazy to restat the campaigns for 4e.

I pre-ordered the gift set online as well, but I am not dependant on my gaming group's decision about 4E. And I got them cheap. 19.95€ per book is a great price compared to what they usually cost in a shop over here.

Just to be sure (because I can't find it clearly spelled out on the amazon site:)
If I preorder, it doesn't charge until it ships.
Is that a true statement?

True statement and legal requirement. :)

Ype, if you got the cash pre-order them. It'll be ages til I can get them in NZ, and the gift sry is cheap compared to Oceania! Reading the new rule books is a big part of the fun of DnD for me, whether I use them or not.
oh yeah, Mr Wildman, I like your Haiku, however I'd change the last line to:
"I pwn all these toys." :)

After Buy.com canceled my pre-order with them (they were selling it too low apparently), I couldn't resist the Amazon deal.

I know I'll be buying the books, anyway -- even if the rest of my gaming group hates 4e. Actually, I'm usually the guy who gets the new game and reviews it to my group or loans the book out.

Based on that, I pre-ordered the set.

If you really think you might not buy at least two of the books, then there's an argument for passing. If you know you're going to buy at least a break-even dollar value of books, then you may as well have them sooner than later (assuming you have the disposable income, but I'm not about to play financial adviser).

If I do get them I'll be getting all 3 core books, not just the PHB.
