Getting Faster?

When certain things are going on - lots of searches, for example - then we use up most the RAM and start using virtual memory. That's when it gets slower. (Try to use search sparingly.. hehe)

I've decreased some SQL buffer sizes just a tiny bit. This MIGHT give us a very slight decrease in performance when the system load is low. HOWEVER.. We're using about 20% of the memory we were using before ... Which means that when the system load is high (over 1500) there won't be any swapping at all. (Swapping makes a page/etc/etc load at aproximately 1/10th the speed).

There's usually a good deal on RAM at CompUSA, and you could probably get a good price at the Best Buy up there.

I've noticed a definite speed increase. The only problem I seem to have is with ads through ad.doubleclick.net, since my ISP blocks them and it sometimes makes the whole page loading hang. Diagnostics runs on my end show almost no lag from EN World in initial response, with only a few seconds of time while the system handles the payload of a couple thousand registered users accessing the site all at once, and then a speedy transmission of data. Mostly it's the posts and searches that bog down sometimes, but more RAM should fix that up.
