Ghost as a PC

Given that the Ghost has become a template more than a scary aging beastie, I have given a number of thoughts regarding a Ghost/PC campaign or mini-campaign. I even went so far as to let my gf play a Ghost in my d20 Modern one-off.

I believe the concept would be much better represented in d20 Modern than d20 Fantasy, but let's play "what if"...

What would you guys do as a DM to create and run such a campaign?

I'd try to give Ghostwalk, the D&D book Sean Reynolds and Monte Cook did for WotC just before D&D3.5 was released, a look. Ghost PCs is pretty much the main premise of that book.

Ack! See, this is why I need to get off my butt and compile that Graveworld PDF (it deals with Ghost PCs as well, but in a different way than Ghostwalk did).

EyeontheMountain:

According to the SRD, it has already become the case.

To quote the relevant line of text:

"'Ghost' is an acquired template that can be added to any aberration, animal, dragon, giant, humanoid, magical beast, monstrous humanoid, or plant." [emphasis mine]

Good ol' 3.x...

Wow! I had no idea such a supplement existed. And since Monte AND Sean worked on it, I know I'll be pleased; I really enjoy Monte's non-linear thinking and creativity... and Sean's no slouch, either. :p Thanks for the heads-up!

Maybe for you it has, but for me a ghost is still a scary opponent, not a character class....

Same for evil people and creatrues

I think a ghost template works well, as it seems to fit the concept. In fact, I can't think of an example of where a template is required. A ghost is the remnants of something that once lived, so having a template that applies to living creatures makes sense to me.

But I don't get that a ghost template means that the ghost stops being scary. I agree with you that they should be scary. If played correctly and pirched at the correct CR, they're tough opponents and a match for any party.

And I agree with everyone else: ghostwalk is what the original poster needs.
