I lack the privelege of searching the forums so forgive me if this topic is redundant.
Ghostform: 5th level, 50% immunity to magic from a corporeal source, can still effect corporeal objects with no miss chance, lasts 1 minute/level.
Ethereal Jaunt: 7th level, cannot effect corporeal in any way and they can't effect you, lasts 1 round/level.
Both: Phase through walls, add your CHA mod as a deflection to AC, fly at 2x your speed.
It seems obvious from the text on page 83 of T&B (the source of Ghostform), that the designers put at least some thought into the design of the spell. It's a defensive spell, (could be considered a staple spell for sorcerors,) which grants some hefty bonuses that mimic the effects of many other spells. Not the least of which is a higher level spell, Ethereal Jaunt, which only lasts for 1 round per level but couldn't be used as a defense spell since it doesn't let you effect corporeal sources.
That said, a character would get significantly more milage out of Ghostform which grants far more useful abilities than Ethereal Jaunt.
Moreover, why is Ethereal Jaunt a 7th level spell? It's not as quick and easy as Teleport, and it only provides planar transport to a specific plane, and a specific person (You). Need more people? That's a 8th level spell, Etherealness. Or you could just Plane Shift at the expensive of accuracy. It would depend on the situation, but that is neither here nor there.
This is quite confounding to me and my group. Some people want Ghostform to be 9th level. Some say to switch Ghostform and Ethereal Jaunt's levels (to 7th and 5th, respectively). Some say it would be more balanced if you allow the Ethereal Jaunt character to Manifest into incorporeal (which the spell normally does not allow -that ability is reserved for ghosts alone).
What do you think? (Please stay on topic)
