Ghostwalk

I hear WOTC is putting out a book that lets you keep adventuring after you die, as a ghost. What do you think of the idea?

By itself, the idea sounds rather lackluster. The thing is, this is definately not all there is to it.

From what I've heard, this is going to be one of those stand-alone campaign settings that will be complete unto itself, while having new rules and such, very much like how Council of Wyrms was for 2E (a very great product).

I also heard that the "ghosts" that you play aren't normal MM-style ghosts, but no clarification on what they actually will be.

Ghostwalk sounds a lot like CRPGs where you have bindstones, ethereal labyrinths or whatnot to deal with characters returning from the dead. I'm not thrilled about it as I rather lose a couple of favorite characters than not having any die at all. Some characters become legends after they die.

I'm totally working off of hear-say here, but I don't think that's quite it.

It may be an entire new world, but the setting itself will be more localized (and thus better able to be dropped into any other setting). I heard it would be some sort of city myself.

As for being an undead Savage Species, it might be, but the way I heard it was that the "ghosts" wouldn't be the undead kind we're familiar with. I also heard they would (aside from living characters, which would work in the setting also) be the only kind of "variant" character type available, with no other undead creatures available (basically, itd be a city of the dead, not the undead).

Again, I'm working from half-rumors and such, so don't take any of the above as gospel. I could be dead wrong (pun intended - sorry!).

I think the idea though has quite a bit of merit. I mean, adventuring on after death, its rather innovative as far as D&D goes. Usually PC death is the end of the character, or you just fast-forward to the Resurrection spell. Planescape touched on this idea a little bit, but not much. I'm pretty jazzed to see more of the idea. I can just see the subtitle now... "Death is only the next great adventure."

Yes, I remember the city being on the verge of a gate to the netherworld and some glitch in the system allowed some (dead) people slip back into the real world. The escapees where in the form of ghosts and they could go find there old body, strap on the old gear and then quest for there life back.

I agree with whatever you think.
